BONNE TERRE, Mo. -- (June 14, 2003) For the first time in the history of Big River Sand Drags an Open 4x4 competitior cracked the 3.0 ET mark and it was not only done one, but twice.
Jim Bealmear of Mexico, Mo. shattered the old 3.0 mark by posting marks of 2.864 seconds to win the first place title (over a 300-foot sand track) against John Dreher of Wentzville and then surpassed that record with a run of 2.858 during the top eliminator race where he once again defeated Dreher.
"It was running good, but it can still run better," Bealmear said following the races.
In Off Road Modified, Todd Dee of Leadwood was the top eliminator and first place winner while Josh Harris of Belgrade settled for second place.
In Stock Buggy, Kevin Sellars of Arnold was the top eliminator and first place winner with Gary Hollinsworth of Farmington taking second place.
In Vehicle ET, Philip Beaird of St. Louis was the top eliminator and first place winner while Jim Glatczak of Potosi settled for second place.
In Competition Eliminator, Steve Barton of Bonne Terre was the first place and top eliminator race winner with Jason Waller of Bonne Terre taking second place.
In Super Pro ATV, Doug Brown of Bloomsdale was the top eliminator and first place winner while Dale Bates of Festus captured second place.
In Pro ATV, Andrew Burcham of Park Hills was the top eliminator and first place winner while Cindi Schmidt of Arnold finished in second place.
In ATV-1, once again it was Andrew Burcham of Park Hills winning the top eliminator race. He had finished in second place but defeated first place winner Karen Schmidt of Arnold in the top eliminator race.
In Junior ATV, Garth Farris of Potosi continued his dominace of the junior class by taking first place and top eliminator while Nick Harris of Belgrade captured second place.
