Loyet & Gass Capture Finley Memorial
Brad Loyet of Sunset Hills, MO won the 30 lap O’Reilly POWRi presented by Lucas Oil midget feature Saturday night leading 28 laps of the 30 lap Finley Memorial main event. Loyet took the early lead from his outside front row starting position and rode the cushion with Belleville’s Brett Anderson and Mike Hess of Petersburg, IL in tow. Anderson would pass Loyet on lap 14 and would also lead lap 15 with Loyet regaining the lead on the next lap never to be challenged again. This was Loyet’s third POWRi midget feature in a row and fourth of the season. Following Loyet at the finish was Anderson, Derek King of Vienna, IL, Hess, and Belleville’s Nick Knepper.
Mark Gass of Belleville, IL won the Finley Memorial 600cc Outlaw Micro Sprint race. Pole starter Tony Roney of Herculaneum, MO would lead the first two laps running the bottom groove with Gass starting on the outside and running the top groove. Gass would pass Roney on lap 3 and hold the point until lap 16 when Derek King of Vienna, IL would make the pass on the cushion for the lead. Unfortunately for King, the caution would come out on the same lap negating the pass and putting Gass back up front on the restart. This time Gass would not relinquish the lead to King and hold on for the win. Following Gass and King at the finish would be Ryan Langston of Greenfield, IN, Nick Harris of Atlanta, IL and Roney rounding out the top five.
Anderson holds a 30 point lead over Loyet in the O’Reilly POWRi presented by Lucas Oil midget series point standings heading into the Wednesday night July 23rd event at I-55 Raceway in Pevely, MO for NASCAR Night. On Thursday night July 24th the POWRi contingent heads to Morgan County Speedway in Jacksonville, IL to do battle on the very fast ¼ mile dirt track. The 600cc Outlaw Micro Sprints will also be on the card for both nights.
