Billy Faust on M.A.R.S.

"Greetings & Salutations"
It was good to see an Stl-area driver out my way, rarely does that happen due to the UMP points chasing thing, but last night Billy Faust was at the MARS-sanctioned show in Bolivar, Missouri. Bolivar is a true 3/8th mile about 25 miles north of Springfield, MO. He was up to ninth about three quarters through the race and then left with a flat; luckily it was on a yellow and he came back out to finish 11th overall. I spoke to Bill in the pits and their plan was to run at the new Lake Ozark track in Eldon, MO, tonight (Saturday) for the next MARS race. Billy has always been one of the few Stl-area LM drivers to "venture" out a little and I have much respect for that. Even though it's hard to get him to speak much, he seems to be a polite dude, just a little quiet. I think he and his crew were a little shocked over all the kids asking for pictures; you see, out this way most of the drivers have cards made with a picture of them and their car on it and the kids just go around from trailer to trailer. This is something I've always thought the UMP guys could do a little better, was to have some better PR with the fans, most of them are great to talk to but few of them have pics or trading cards to sign for the young fans. I wish Billy and crew the best of luck at Lake Ozark. Billy should have received $600 for his finish, it's $500 just to start a MARS feature. Phillips and Jeff Taylor put on a heck of a show for most of the race. Duke Whiseant has a cool new paint job, far different of that when he raced some of the Summer Nat's shows, it's almost all black now. Wendell Wallace looked as though he may have cooked a motor as his night ended early. Not a bad night of racing for the MARS guys. We even spotted Earl Pearson, Jr., in the stands. His hauler looked to be parked out back; he will be racing the Xtreme show at the Belleville, KS, highbanks tonight.

Below is the official finish courtesy of the MARS site.

One of these days, Billy will have some better luck at Bolivar. Has had a reasonably good car both times there this year. Nice showing, hope everyone enjoyed the weekend at the lake.
