Billy James of Sikeston made it three for three at the Malden Speedway in the Late Model division. Also winning features Friday night were Robert Powers in Modified, local driver Greg Sparks took Hobby Stock, Johnny Houart made it two in a row in Street Stock, Jeff Tilley won E-Mods, and the team of Kelley and Moore won their fourth straight Cruiser feature.

In the Late Model feature, Billy James won a hard fought contest. The race opened with Gary Stolba grabbing the lead from the outside front row.
Stolba held the lead for 11 laps while the field jockeyed for position behind him. Steve Rushin grabbed the lead on lap 11 coming out of turn four.
A half lap later, James grabbed second coming down the back straight. The lead pair encountered lapped traffic on lap 15 and it would help decide the winner. Coming into turn two on lap 16, Rushin spun 360 degrees trying to avoid a slower car. Rushin quickly regained control with some magnificent driving, but he had fell to third in the spin as Dane Dacus also overtook him. James would lead the final four laps dodging traffic and keeping a comfortable cushion on Dacus in second. Following Rushin were Stolba and Jeff Moss to make up the top five. Heat winners were Todd Hall and Stolba.

After winning his heat race in dominating fashion by half a lap, Robert Powers found the competition a lot tougher in the Feature of the Modified class. Chris Hall grabbed the lead from the pole with Powers in hot pursuit. Powers had good momentum coming out of turn two on the seventh lap and passed Hall down the back straight. Two laps later, Robby Arnold took second from Hall and was quickly on Powers' bumper. On lap 10 it looked like Arnold had the speed coming out of turn two to take the lead, but he had to slow for lapped traffic. A caution on lap 18 set up a green-white-checkered dash to the finish. Hall and Arnold battled side by side for second the two laps with Powers just ahead. Hall came around Arnold in turn four of the final lap and pulled to the door panel of Powers at the finish line in one of the best races of the year. Mike Francis took fourth, followed by Tony Anglin in the top 5. Heat winners were Hall, Powers, and Dicky Jackson. Brad Buck won the B-Main.

Greg Sparks went from a crash on the opening lap to victory lane in the Hobby Stock feature. Sparks suffered a head on crash in turn four that buckled his hood, but left no major damage. With a complete restart, Sparks had better luck and fell in behind pole sitter and early leader Doug Moore.
With his hood flapping in the wind, Sparks passed Moore on the front straight of lap 4. Sparks and Moore raced bumper to bumper until Sparks'
hood flew off on lap 10 causing a caution for debris. On the restart, Sparks pulled away from Moore and built a two second lead by the finish of the race. Chuck Tilley took third, followed by Tony Anglin and Claudie Cook in the twin 54 cars. Heat winners were Moore and Sparks.

Houart pulled away following a lap 10 caution and left the battle to see who would finish second. Wicker and Doug Moore raced side by side for over a lap before Moore took control down the front straight on lap 12. Paul Reeder slipped by Wicker with one to go to take third. Billy Hopkins took fifth in his first appearance at the track in 2005. Heat winners were Mike Elliot, Wicker, and Chris Kelley.
