(Weekend Is The Largest African American motorsports event In The Country)

Madison, IL - Gateway International Raceway will once again be host to the largest
African American motorsports event in the country when Black Sunday with the United
Black Drag Racers Association (U.B.D.R.A.) returns on September 17-19.

This event began in the early 1980's as a race for bragging rights when the challenge was
issued to "show up or shut up". Black racers from all over the St. Louis Metro Area
came with families, cars, and barbecue pits in tow to begin what would become known as
"Black Sunday."

The U.B.D.R.A. has continued the tradition of Black Sunday begun in the 80's.
However, the Black Sunday of today is a little different than when it first began as a
grudge race. This annual event, open to racers of all nationalities, has grown in
attendance at a rate of 48% per year. The event has been attended by drag racing
enthusiast from all over the country including: California, Hawaii, New York, Maryland,
Louisiana, Texas, Michigan, South Carolina, Washington, Massachusetts, Kentucky,
Tennessee, Wisconsin, Ohio, Iowa, Kansas, Florida, and of course Missouri and Illinois.
This year promises an even greater showing! Fans will enjoy the special event races and
exhibitions being planned as the racers go all out for the large prize purses being
awarded!

Each year the U.B.D.R.A. donates a larger portion of the event proceeds to charity. Last
year the U.B.D.R.A. donated $10,000 to metro area charities. For more information log
