Bluegrass Speedway Host STARS Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series This Saturday for 6th Annual Spring Sizzler

By Michael Despain

Bardstown, KY-April 21- Track promoters David and Anita Ferrell will present their first big Late Model event of 2003 as the second year STARS Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series presented by Arizona Sport Shirts invades the ½ mile Nelson County speedplant for the 6th Annual Spring Sizzler event.

This will mark the first of four appearances by the Lexington, KY based series that made three appearances at the Charles Hamilton owned facility in 2002. The race is the second of the STARS BoB Green Flag Opener weekend for the group beginning its sophomore season of action and will be 30 laps and pay the winner $3,000 and pay $250 to start. Eddie Carrier, Jr. captured the 2002 STARS BoB DirtCar Series title and is expected to be on hand for the event as he begins defense of his series title. While this traveling group brings much competition to the table, the Saturday night regulars at Bluegrass also bring a “big plate of meat” to the gathering as well, and these ingredients should produce a grade-A evening of action at the site for the 2003 Dirt Track World Championship. The Modifieds and Sportsman will provide support division action for the evening, while the Street Stocks have the evening off.

Opening night winners one week ago included Bryan Barber of Buffalo, KY in Late Models, Earl Plessinger of Seymour, IN in Modifieds, Bo Wilson of Bloomfield, KY in Sportsman, and Johnny Cecil of Loretto, KY in Street Stocks.

Pit gates will open at 4:00, with main gates opening at 5:00. Hot laps will begin at 6:30, time trials go around 7:00, with racing set to take the green flag at 8:00. Adult general admission is $15 for adults, children age 6-12 are $8, while pit passes are $30 for this special event.

Past winners of this event include Mike Hawley in 1998, Terry English in 1999, Rick Corbin in 2000, Don O’Neal in 2001, and the race was rained out in 2002. For more information about this and other events at the track, visit the website online at www.bluegrass-speedway.com.
