Bob Geaschel at Highland ???

SamIam67

"Greetings & Salutations"
Due to the greedy gas prices I haven't been able to make as many trips back to UMP land this year and am not "in the know" so to speak; however, I would like something clarified by someone if possilbe. In the Highland results it lists a Bob Geaschel, in the number 4. Can this really be the Bob Geaschel in the 4 car I remember from the late 70s or is it a son, nephew or someone else??? If so, man he can still get 'er done. I remember some hell-a-bad races with him and the elder Faust boys, Sellers, Kloos and all the good 'ole Highland boys of yester-year. Someone please advise. No negativity please!!!

Thanks,
Sam

Thanks for the updates! Man that is something, hopefully I'll get up there and be able to see him race. My uncle used to be the head mechanic for L-102 back in the day and his kids loved this guy, can't wait to tell them that old Bob is back out racing again, they probably won't believe me!

The ~~ZOT~~ Lady

I remember back in the 70's at Highland. We used to sit behind this lady who was a huge Geaschel fan. We were Chris Bargetsi fans. This lady would put some kind of a two handed voodoo ~~ZOT~~ on ol Chris every lap when they raced together. Does anyone else remember her???

The Highland "Mystique"

I don't remember that one fan in particular but do remember quite a few "characters" at Highland over the years. For better or worse, Highland seems to have always had an eclectic group of "fans." I used to sit by Bret Weil's mom and sister, and just in front of them Dennis Sellers' mom used to sit. I remember Carl Poser's wife always being "quite animated." There was definitely interesting "conversations" between many fans of a lot of different drivers, the funny thing is the drivers for the most part got a long and the fans seemed to be the animated ones. Now there will be Highland bashers on here saying it's the alcohol, but they don't understand that Highland has always had a mystique about it when it comes to the fans so let them bash, hopefully they'll remember being negative ****s! I can remember some animated times between my old gang in the stands and the Marty Smith fans, we took that to the brink one night when we made a 55 sign with a line through it, mirroring the I Can't Drive 55 signs you see once in a while. They were really mad at us and came and tore it down. Looking back it was dumb for us to do that but man was it fun, at one point we even thought about having shirts made with the symbol on it, dumb teenagers we were. Curt Allen fans were animated as well, especially back when things started to fall apart when they tried those nights at Granite City and half the modifieds left Highland for quite some time. To this day Highland has interesting events, I don't get to attend all that much but the fans of Bielong/Harrison/Kloos/M. Faust/Zobrist all are fun to watch. Not bashing here, I think it's great that people get into racing, just don't get violent folks.

Speaking of old times at Highland ... does anyone remember a guy by the name of, I think it was Kevin Prott? in a white number 17 modified? First night ever in the car in the early 80s and he caught the wall coming down the front stretch and flipped wildly. I've never heard such a silent crowd ever, but then he climbed out of the car a little shaken but none worse the wear. Man, there was sheet metal everywhere, that good lookin' car just came apart like an Indy heap! Another bad wreck down the front stretch, without injury was when Don Cruise, Jr., took out half the front stretch fence in the old Sportsmen days. Then there was the time Mark Faust parked the car half way down the back stretch creek bed and then came back out later that night to race in the old modified days. Memories, memories, memories.

i belive the car was a new super fly chassis, they had to rebuild the cage ,i ended up with the car a few years later
