(Warrensburg, MO) An early afternoon shower was just enough to wet down the clay oval track on Saturday along with somewhat more pleasant temperatures in the Warrensburg area at Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) for Comfort Inn Race Night. A hearty field of 105 drivers registered for racing including modifieds, ULMA late models, street stocks, and b-modifieds. Drivers were prepared for a night of hot racing action on the smooth high-banked track despite the light showers earlier in the day. Modified drivers also utilized their time on the track to prepare for the upcoming 4th of July Tom Wilson Memorial BBQ Bowl sponsored by RSC Equipment Rental with a $5,000 to win modified feature on Saturday night and a b-modified $1500 to win feature on Friday, July 3.

The evening started with 26 b-modified drivers checked in for another night of exciting racing action. The first heat of the evening started with Lucas Isaacs from Bonner Springs, KS receiving his second heat win this year during heat race one. Warrensburg driver, Chris Brockway wins in heat race two for his fourth victory. Jeremy Lile from Higginsville takes the checkered flag in heat race three for his third this season. The b-main settled the final five transfer spots before intermission with 14 year old driver, Troy Carlyle from Kearney for his first b-feature win this season with Cody Brill, Jason Billups, Ernie Walker and Greg Marrant transferring into the b-modified feature. Brockway and Isaacs led 20 b-modified starters to the line for the a-main event with Lucas Isaacs taking the early lead over Brockway, Bronson Combs and Brad Smith. A lap three spin in turn two caused the first yellow with Marrant and Carlyle leaving the track with mechanical problems. Michael King also moved into the fray to challenge for a top five position. Three wide racing action on the track with Brockway, Smith and Combs was well worth the price of admission to see who would move into the second spot behind Isaacs. On lap eight, Jeremy Lile spun in turn two after some contact with Jacob Ebert relegating him to the tail back position. On lap twelve, Smith made it interesting with a low side move to challenge for the lead moving side-by-side with Isaacs, but Isaacs hangs on for the lead with the ten-time feature winner. Finally, Isaacs takes the checkers for his first-ever feature win at CMS joining his brother Ethan who won several weeks ago. A hard fought second place goes to Smith with Brockway in a solid run comes in third, Michael King takes fourth and another young driver, Dalton Kirk fifth.

Chad Eickleberry from Warrensburg won heat number one for his fourth this year and Brian Johnson of Independence with his sixth win in heat two after a close finish with John Brooks. The Street Stocks had 14 cars checked in the street stock division to see if someone could take the checkers away from Johnson who has four feature trophies this season. Eickleberry and Johnson led the field on row one for the feature event with Eickleberry moving ahead into the early lead with 14 time track champion John Brooks, Marc Carter and Johnson fighting in the top four spots for the lead. Brooks worked his way to the front by lap five to take the lead with Carter and Johnson battling for the second spot. Eickleberry then spins in turn four on lap six and heads to the tail before moving his way back up through the field. Carter then passed for the lead on lap seven with Johnson passing Brooks for the second position. Johnson then spins later on in turn two after a re-start which moves Michael Mullins up into the third position. In the end, it was Warrensburg driver Marc Carter for his first feature victory at CMS this year. Brooks stays in second with Mullins third and a great run by Eickleberry back up into fourth and Bennett finishes out the top five.

The ULMA late model class once again had another strong show on the track with 23 cars registered and competing in three heat races to set the feature event. Jon Binning of Warrensburg takes his second heat win this year at CMS along with overall ULMA points leader Robbie Test from Jefferson City for his third win in heat two. In heat race three, Jake Williams made the long haul from Lockwood, MO to take the checkered flags for his first heat win at CMS. Robbie Test and Jon Binning led the field to Hershel Thompson’s green flag for the a-main event. After several attempts to start the feature Binning takes the early race lead with Williams moving down low to test the lines close behind Binning in second. Robbie Test, Kevin Coyne and Jeff Schlup started to close in for the top spots in the top five. After several re-starts for cautions, Binning maintains the lead with Williams checking the track for traction on the clay oval. Robbie Test hits the tire on turn four which causes a problem on his front right tire on lap twelve. Late in the event Allen Perryman and Bob Test go around before the final caution of the feature with John and Brian Pipes, Larry Clawson along with Robbie Test leaving the track. Finally, Binning, the 2008 ULMA Track Champion takes the double checkers for his first late model win of the season. Williams runs a strong race just behind him in second with David Barker third, Kevin Kaiser fourth and Steven Clancy with a solid run from tenth into a fifth place finish completing the top five.

The increased modified payout and some wet weather in northern Missouri contributed to the 42 'mighty' modified drivers on hand for some thrilling action on the track. Dean Wille from Warrensburg made a late pass taking the checkered flag in heat race number one with Dustin Boney of Tonganoxie, KS grabbing a win in heat number two for his second of the year. Appleton City driver, Johnny Fennewald crossed the finish line first in heat number three when he picked up his first heat victory. In the fourth heat, the popular driver from Sedalia, Terry Schultz visits victory lane with his first CMS win this year. In the fifth and final heat race, Dave Meyer from Concordia takes the win for his fifth this year. Two b-mains were contested to fill the final four starting spots with Lucas Conley and Joey Lile transferring in from the first b-main and Darren Shaw and a final lap pass from Dennis Walrath to make the feature from the second b-main. In the feature it was Dustin Boney to the low side early in the event with the lead. Wille and Meyer were in a side-by-side struggle for second place with Fennewald moving up into third early on. On lap seven Donnie Danner hits the tire in turn four spinning out along with Dennis Walrath who had no place to go placing him at the tail of the field. Meyer and Fennewald go side-by-side with Fennewald taking the second spot late in the race. Dustin Boney solidified his status as one of the drivers to watch for the July 4th Tom Wilson Memorial Day special on the CMS high-banks for his first feature win at CMS this season and also his second feature win this weekend. Fennewald claimed the second spot with Meyer close in third, Jason Thompson stayed engaged with the leaders throughout the race finished fourth. Eric Turner from Springfield was checking out the track ran another solid race to complete the top five. Hard charger in the modified class tonight included Tony Jackson Jr. from Lebanon from back of the field after a spin into a ninth place finish.
