CARTERSVILLE, GA – Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, IN will anchor the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series in the Hoosier State beginning on April 26, as the series will sanction the track’s Late Model Division for 13 weeks of competition on the 1/4-mile dirt oval. Drivers in the Division will compete for both track and series Regional point fund money.

Group Metal Recyclers of Edinburgh, IN has stepped forward to sponsor the new Division, which will be called the GMR Late Model Division. Group Metal Recyclers recycles automotive catalytic converters.

Included in the 13 weeks of NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series GMR Late Model Division action in 2008 at Brownstown Speedway will be six double point events that will represent a total of 19 races that will count towards the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region points, with a driver’s best 16 finishes counting towards their Regional point total..

“From the response I’ve had from the dirt late model drivers in the area, the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series and the economical GM Performance Crate Engine concept they bring is the future of dirt late model racing, and the time is right to bring them into Brownstown Speedway,” Brownstown Speedway Promoter Tim Keithley said. “The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series brings a good Regional program with good tech and public relations support, and we’re looking forward to working with them to help this series grow in Indiana.”

The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series is excited to have Keithley, Brownstown Speedway, and its competitors involved with the expansion of the East Region.

“We’re excited about our new relationship with Tim Keithley and the competitors of Brownstown Speedway, and their enthusiasm towards the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series,” NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Founder and Director Mike Vaughn said. “The rich history and tradition in dirt late model racing at Brownstown Speedway make it an anchor for the expansion of the series in Indiana and the Midwest.”

Brownstown Speedway will join Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL, Penton Raceway in Penton, AL, Green Valley Speedway in Glencoe, AL, Chattahoochee Valley Motor Speedway in Dothan, AL, East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL, and Fort Payne Motor Speedway in Fort Payne, AL in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region.

Under the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series sanction, drivers in the GMR late Model Division at Brownstown Speedway will be eligible not only to compete for a Track point fund, but also a Regional point fund using their 16 best finishes during the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series 2008 season that runs through at least October 12, 2008.

“We have decided to extend the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series at least another two weeks from what we originally announced due to a high number of rainouts during the first three weeks of the season,” NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Director Roby Helm said. “We may go even further into October, depending on the weather in the next few weeks.”

In addition, the top six drivers in the Brownstown Speedway GMR Late Model Division point standings, excluding any top six Regional point drivers, will be invited to the 3rd Annual Crate Racin’ USA Fall Nationals Invitational Race at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS on November 28, 2008.

The Brownstown Speedway GMR Late Model Champion will also be eligible to compete in the Race of Champions, and top six Regional point drivers will compete in the Race of Regions during the Fall Nationals in Columbus, MS. The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Regional Champions will receive a new GM Performance 604 Crate Engine, and a new dirt late model chassis.

The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series and the Weekly Racing Series feature dirt late models powered by the economical GM Performance Crate Engine that are built and sealed at the GM factory to prevent any expensive modifications, and are shipped and made available at GM dealers nationwide.

The 400 horsepower aluminum-head 604 engine can be purchased for right at $5,000, and the 350 horsepower steel-head 602 engine can be purchased for right at $3,000. The GM Performance 602 Crate Engine also receives a 150-pound weight break and a one inch larger carburetor spacer over the 604 engine.
