Mother Nature finally cooperated with Quincy Raceways Sunday night as racing action resumed after 3 consecutive weekends of rain outs. Mark Burgtorf jumped out into the lead of the 30 lap Budweiser IMCA Late Model feature event and held off all challengers to take his first points race win of the season. Burgtorf’s lead was challenged by 4 caution flags that bunched up the field with 2002 Track Champion Brent Slocum pressing to take over the top spot on each restart. Burgtorf held off Slocum to take the win with Boone McLaughlin in third, Jamie Wilson in fourth and Denny Woodworth in fifth. Matt Strassheim and Jim Swank were the heat race winners. Brent Slocum took a narrow victory over Mike Karhoff in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.

The Miller Lite A-Modified field may have been short of cars Sunday night but it sure was not short of action. Michael Long took the lead at the drop of the green flag and battled with Henry Delonjay for the first half of the 20 lap feature event. Ryan Meyer then got by Delonjay for second on the 8th circuit and set his sites on Long. Meyer grabbed first when Long slid high in turn one on a eleventh lap restart and held Long at bay until turn four of the checkered flag lap. Meyer and Long battled wheel to wheel through turn four with sparks flying with Long taking the win and Meyer slipping to third behind Delonjay in second. Rounding out the top five were Jerry Weisenberger in fourth and Brandon Lennox in fifth. Weisenberger and Lennox were the heat race winners.

The B-Modified feature event was time limited to 11 laps as the yellow flag flew too many times. Bobby Cookson survived numerous restarts to take the feature event win over Joe Bliven in second, Tony Dunker in third, Chuck Ancell in fourth and Marty Hull in fifth. Rob Carter, Cookson and Jim Leffew were the heat race winners. Joe Bliven took the win in the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash.

First year bomber driver, Craig Spilker looked like he would survive the seven caution flags in the Bomber feature event but his luck would not hold as he slipped up in turn 2 of the 18th lap and looped his car in front of the field. Adam Birch took advantage of Spilker’s mishap and took the feature win over Brian Kenning in second, Billy Genenbacher in third, Louis Miller in fourth and Jerry Jansen in fifth. Jeff Delonjay took the win in the Consolation race while Jim Powell, Joe Mickels, Spilker and Sam Mickels took the heat race wins.

Racing action continues at Quincy Raceway over the Memorial Day Weekend with 2 big nights of racing action. Sunday night, May 25th, with Kids Night at the Races. Gates open at 4:30 with Hot Laps at 5:45 and racing at 6:30pm. Monday night, Memorial Day will see the return of the first NIGHT OF DESTRUCTION of the 2003 season. Destruction Starts at 6:30pm.
