Fulton, MO (May 16, 2008) – After what seemed like endless postponements due to the weather, Callaway Raceway was finally able to kick off their 2008 racing season. The 1/3 mile dirt facility was in prime shape for both racers and fans alike.

The feature events of the evening were well worth the wait. The Sportsman division led the racing off with a special $400 to win race.

Roger Nilges of Holts Summit, Mo. took an early lead, fending off Joe Miller who was glued to his back bumper. Nilges was able to hold the lead until his car pushed high coming out of turn 2 allowing Miller to take the lead.

After falling back to 4th place Nilges battled back to 2nd place, only to spin on lap 18. On the restart Nilges worked his way through the pack to close on Joe Miller. With 2 laps to Nilges was able to pass Miller on the back straightaway to capture the 25 lap win. Both Roger Nilges and Joe Miller won their heats earlier in the evening.

The B-Modified feature was cut short due to a 30 minute time limit. Lonnie Wyman, Jr. of Fulton, Mo. was able to hold off the charge of Blake David and Jacob Sewell to take the opening night win.

In the Limited Late Model division Kevin David of Fulton, Mo. was able to hold off Javan Payne and Robbie Wright to capture the 15 lap feature. David also won his heat race earlier in the evening.

Mexico, Missouri's Mike Vanderiet, Jr. took the lead on lap one, then had his hands full for the rest of the 25 lap feature as he held off challenges from Jeff LaBaube and Robert Test, III to take the UMP Pro Modified feature.
Vanderiet in only his 2nd appearance ever at the track discovered after the feature that he had a tire go down during the race. Even though it was only his second appearance he indicated that it would not be his last.

The Hornet division featuring many of the Callaway Raceway's up and coming drivers rounded off the evening in grand style. Brooksie Teel took an early lead over Shawn Jones and Brooke Hassler. Halfway through the 15 lap event, Teel spun in between turns 3 and 4, allowing Jones to inherit the lead.
Shawn Jones pulled away to a comfortable lead until Marci Wolfmeier of Fulton, Mo. worked her way through traffic to catch Jones and pass him at the finish line to pick up the win.

Following Marci Wolfmeier across the line was Shawn Jones and Brooke Hassler to round out the top three.

Next up on the schedule for May 23rd is a special $600 to win, $50 to start, event for the B-Modified division.
