I've got a 421cu aluminum afr heads227 what im wanting to know is if the cam i have will work and how it will perform the cam is=
duration at 50 257 265
lobe lift 430 430
separation 106
duration at 20 287 295
gross valve lift 645 645
degreeed at 102
my rockers are ex 1.55 and intake 1.65 that would put the gross valve
lift at ex .6665 and intake .7095
the engine is 6inch rod 13to 1 comp
engine will be in a mod and be run an a short stop and go track, thanks for your opnion

It will have the peak horsepower in the 6000-6200 area with that cam and will probably run out of breath at about 7000. Should come off the corner hard but will die off early.

Thanks racing 68,do you have any ideal what would be a good cam or( cam grinder ) to put in this combo,i want it to pull hard but not run out steam, thanks

Well with the 227 head the port is a little small so probably in the area of 266/269 .725/.660 108 lobe sep. 103 int cl. Should pull strong to 7700 with those rockers. Ideally you would need a bigger runner head in the 240cc area. We use Cam Motion for most of our grinds.

257 at .050 is a pretty small cam for an engine of that size and that rpm level. You should probably give it a try and then maybe experiment with moving it back to a 106(no advance) centerline and see how the engine responds. That would give you a lot more insight as to what you need for a camshaft.
