Lonnie Wheatley, PEORIA, Ariz. (April 21, 2014) – With a tight points race already developing, the USAC Southwest Sprint Cars take center stage in Saturday night’s Fourth Annual Canyon Clash atop the 1/3-mile Canyon Speedway Park clay oval.

While the USAC Southwest wingless forces take to the CSP oval for the second time of the year since the Winter Challenge, also in action will be Micro Sprints, Pure Stocks and AMA Mod Lites.

Following an open practice session on Wednesday night from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Saturday’s Fourth Annual Canyon Clash goes green at 7:00 p.m.

Peoria’s Josh Pelkey topped the USAC Southwest Sprint Cars season opener at Canyon Speedway Park on March 29 and leads the way into Saturday’s action with a slim 2-point lead over reigning series champion R.J. Johnson, who topped the series’ most recent event on April 12.

While just two points separate Pelkey and Johnson, Shon Deskins is just another three points back in third with Tye Mihocko and Charles Davis, Jr., also among the top five. The balance of the current top ten in USAC Southwest points includes Bruce St. James, Nick Aiuto, Michel Curtis, Mike Martin and Josh Shipley.

R.J. Johnson is the defending Canyon Clash champion after Jeremy Sherman topped the initial two versions of the event.

After four different drivers took Micro Sprint wins during Winter Challenge action, Colton Hardy added his name to the winner’s list by taking top honors during the March 29 season opener.

Ty Warner ruled the Pure Stock ranks with three of five wins in Winter Challenge competition but it was Ty Weidner scoring the Opening Night win ahead of Chris McCurdy, Jr., and Joe Vlasity with Warner in fourth.

Brenden Priest took two of three Winter Challenge wins in AMA Mod Lites and carried that over to the season opener where he won again ahead of Adam Etcher and John Priest.
