Central Missouri Speedway owner and promoter Earl Walls recently announced that the track that he and wife Susan have operated for 16 years will indeed reopen on a weekly basis in 2009. Many local fans and drivers were both shocked and elated to hear the news; especially the modified competitors, many of whom have recently learned that several local racing venues are altering their race program and payouts with regards to this division. Mr. Walls stated, "The purse will remain the same for the modified division." The entire CMS staff is looking forward to seeing all the great drivers and loyal fans for another year of racing.

Competing race divisions for the coming season include the 'mighty' modifieds, street stocks, and b-modifieds. ULMA late models will compete on a special-event basis with three confirmed dates during the big three summer holidays. Things get underway with one practice session on the evening of Saturday April 18th. Weekly racing kicks off the following Saturday with KOKO Radio Race Night on April 25th. There are a total of 21 weekends of racing scheduled at the track this year.

Tradition holds true at CMS with three big weekends of special-event racing on the Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day weekends this summer. The first big event takes place on Friday and Saturday May 22nd and 23rd with street stocks in the spotlight on Friday night with a $1,500-to-win feature event and modifieds racing on Saturday for $3,000 to win. The annual Tom Wilson Memorial BBQ Bowl is scheduled for Friday and Saturday night July 3rd and 4th with the b-modifieds gunning for $1,500 to win on Friday and a $5,000-to-win race on Saturday for the modifieds. The last big-money special of the year rolls off on Labor Day weekend, Friday and Saturday night, September 4th and 5th with ULMA late models competing for $1,500 to win on Friday and the modifieds closing things out on Saturday with a $3,000-to-win feature race.

Before the gates swing open for racing, drivers are highly encouraged to attend the annual Rules and Registration Meeting on Saturday, January 31st at the ABC Building on the grounds of Grover Park in Warrensburg, Missouri form 9 a.m. to noon. Drivers competing in the three weekly race divisions may register for the 2009 season at the meeting for $50 and will save $10 for registering prior to March 1st, after which registration increases to $60 for the remainder of the year. The top ten finishers in the final 2008 standings from each division automatically keep their car numbers if they choose; all other number requests are issued on a first-come, first-served basis. In addition to pre-registration for the drivers, attendees will also have an opportunity to ask CMS officials questions concerning each division's competition rules. General information is readily available on the track's Web site at www.centralmissourispeedway.net.
