Although the 2009 CMS curtain raiser is still two weeks away, race fans and drivers can get a head start on the action this Saturday, April 18th as the track hosts its annual Car Show and practice session. This year's car show takes place in the parking lot of the Warrensburg Lowe's store near the junction of 13 and 50 Highways. Festivities begin at 1 p.m. and feature drivers displaying their new 2009 car looks for the race fans. Track personnel will be on hand with ticket and kid's pass giveaways and local AM Radio station 1450 KOKO will broadcast live from the event from 1 until 3 p.m. The American Legion riders will also be on hand during the event. Look for great deals at the Lowe's store in conjunction with the CMS Car Show and an event for Habitat for Humanity. The car show is free of charge for drivers and fans and presents a great opportunity for fans, especially kids, to meet drivers and for drivers to talk about their sponsors and race programs with everyone in attendance and on live radio! After the car show, be sure to head out to the track just a few miles north on Hwy 13 for an evening practice session under the lights. Grandstand admittance is absolutely free for the session, pit passes are $10, and gates open at 5 p.m. All car classes may participate in both the practice session and car show. Drivers attending the car show are asked to email track announcer Sam Stoecklin at samonthemic@hotmail.com; however, pre-registration for the car show is not mandatory.

One of the biggest changes awaiting drivers and fans on the grounds of CMS is the new yellow clay, which was recently added to the track surface. In all total, 65 loads of clay were added. The new clay has made the track about one foot higher all the way around the high-banked facility and track personnel continue to work diligently around the track grounds making improvements. A new drainage system was put in place just over a week ago to help prevent water seeping onto the track from underneath the concrete pad of the grandstands. This should make for a smoother track; especially entering corner one and exiting corner four. A new covered and lighted technical inspection area will be done in time for the April 25th KOKO 1450 AM Radio season opener. Speaking of technical concerns, CMS owner and promoter Earl Walls will make an announcement on the CMS Show this Thursday, April 16th regarding the controversial A-modified frame rail issue. Tune into www.racinboys.com at 7 p.m. to listen for Mr. Walls' decision.

CMS car divisions this season include the 'Mighty' Modifieds, Street Stocks, B-Modifieds, and newly added Bombers. All car rules and specifications as well as general regulations are posted on the track's official Web site at www.centralmissourispeedway.net. Previewing some of the pre-registered drivers in the A-Mods, there are several returning veterans including 5-time track champion 'Fast' Richard Layne, Jason Thompson, Dean Wille, former champion 'Chargin' Charlie Ebert, and 2-time and defending track champion Aaron Marrant. In the Street Stock division Nic Bennett will have his hands full trying to defend his 2008 title against the likes of Chad 'the Bandit' Eickleberry, Michael Mullins, former champion Marc Carter, John Miller, Herb Dannar, John Ebert, and another former champion, Brian Johnson. In only four years, the B-Modified contingent has blossomed into one of the most competitive divisions in the greater Kansas City area. Pre-registered B-Mod drivers include Jeremy Lile, brothers Ethan and Lucas Isaacs, Bryan Montgomery, Charlie 'the country singer Palmer, Ernie Walker, Rusty Trimble, veteran Sonny Wood, and young Jacob Ebert.

There is still time to purchase your CMS season passes. With one of the boldest and most aggressive race schedules in the entire nation, the CMS schedule features 18 regular race nights, three Friday special events and three Saturday special events, for a total of 24 action-packed nights of racing. All of these events are included in the season pass pricing. Seniors 65 and up can purchase their season passes for just $200. Regular adult season passes sell for just $250. There is even a children's season pass package for kids 12 and under for $150. The best part about season passes is that they include the $5,000-to-win modified special on July 4th weekend as well as two $3,000-to-win modified specials on Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends. In addition to the modified specials, season passes also include special events for B-Modifieds, Street Stocks, and the ULMA Late Models, which are only making three appearances at CMS this year. Call Susan Walls to purchase your passes at (816) 229-1338. Regular admission prices for this year are $10 for adults, $8 for senior citizens 65 and up, college students with school I.D., and military members with I.D. Children aged six to twelve are $6 and children five and under are free.
