Coming off a highly successful opening weekend, Warrensburg’s Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) is gearing up for week two of its 20-week 2007 championship race season this Saturday, May 5th. The Warrensburg Chamber of Commerce will be welcoming CMS to the Chamber with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony on the speedway prior to the night’s races taking the green flag. Promoters Earl and Susan Walls continue to make changes and upgrades to CMS and the Chamber Ribbon Cutting welcoming the track is no exception. CMS has been business partners with several area businesses in the greater Warrensburg area for many years and several of those businesses, along with many new ones are sponsors at the track. CMS is proud to be a new addition to the Chamber and looks forward to continuing and growing its relationship with the greater Warrensburg area and community. You can visit the Chamber’s Website at www.warrensburg.org, where you will find links to various Warrensburg events, businesses, accommodations, employment opportunities, and much more.

Last week the loyal contingent of CMS fans voted to decide their picks for the "best in show" cars in each of the four racing classes; the 'mighty' modifieds, ULMA late models, street stocks and b-modifieds. Winners in each division will be announced Saturday during the evening's racing program. In addition to the special ribbon cutting, there will also be a surprise tribute honoring one of the track's mainstay employees that fans won't want to miss. This Saturday also marks the return of the track's "Track Report" racing and souvenir program. This year's program features 24 pages of racing stats, news, sponsor information, photos and results.

Last Saturday there were more than 80 cars signed in on opening week and those numbers will surely increase as the weeks go by. Feature winners last week included Joe Walker in the 'mighty' modifieds, Jason Estes in the ULMA late models, Brian Johnson in the street stocks and Scotty Martin in the B-modifieds. Those four drivers have jumped out to an early lead in the championship point standings and along with a full field of cars in all competing classes will be looking to add to their point totals Saturday night.

With spring time finally upon us, there is always a chance for wet weather but as many people know, if there's a way, CMS will try to run their racing program! You can call the track report line for up-to-the-minute racing status by dialing (660) 747-2166. Be sure to bookmark the track’s Website at www.centralmissourispeedway.net and check back often for schedule and track news updates. Anyone wishing to join the CMS press and news release e-mail user group can do so by e-mailing track announcer, Sam Stoecklin, at samonthemic@hotmail.com and placing “Add to CMS News Group” in the subject line. Potential track and event sponsors are encouraged to call Susan Walls at (816) 229-1338 to make arrangements for the 2007 season. Thank you drivers, fans and crews for choosing CMS as your dirt of choice for racing action on Saturday nights, we look forward to seeing you all this weekend and on through to the second week of September!
