What figures to be the second-most dramatic points finish in the 40-year history of Quincy Raceways will play out Sunday night.
Two of the five weekly series will likely need to go down to the final feature lap to determine their champions. Only the close to the 2008 season, when three series were not decided until the final checkered flag (including one that needed a tiebreaker), provided a better finish to the points pursuits..
The track's two marquee classes -- the UMP Super Late Models and UMP Modifieds -- are the two series that will command the Sunday spotlight.
Mark Burgtorf leads Denny Woodworth by point in the late model chase, while Steven DeLonjay is two points in front of Michael Long in the modifieds.
Burgtorf has won a track-record 14 championships, but has not collected a title since 2007. He was a 2011 charter inductee of the Quincy Raceways Hall of Fame.
Woodworth is the defending track champ is looking for his third title in five seasons. The late model lawyer is also one of just two drivers in track history to win late model and modified track championships. Woodworth was the 1993 "A" mod champ.
DeLonjay is a three-time defending modified champion and has won five overall track crowns. He's also the son of 13-time sportsman and modified track champ Hank "The Crank" DeLonjay, who serves as his son's crew chief.
Long won back-to-back mod titles in 2007-08 and owns the overall track records for most feature (16, 2007) and overall (36, 2007) victories in a season. He's the son of longtime Quincy engine builder Stan Long. His mom, Maroline Long, is a Quincy Raceways Hall of Famer for her contributions to the sport through a variety of administrative roles.
Barring some sort of unforeseen calamity, the track's other series will crown Tony Dunker (sport mods), Abe Huls (stock cars) and Austen Becerra (sport mods) as champions.
