Bonner Springs' modified ace Tom 'rooster' Charles took 13 weeks to finally score
his first Farm and Home of Warrensburg/ T-Mobile "Mighty Modified" main event win
last week at Central Missouri Speedway in Warrensburg. That win, after totaling
seven wins last year at CMS, seemed to 'break the ice' as he rushed up from a 10th
place start to do it for the second week in a row on "Bud Racing Night". His second
$1,000 in cash for the win was against 40 of the midwest's best modified racers.

Artie Lett from Odessa proved again that he was a 'real deal' in the Odessa Pool,
Patio and Spa WOFC Sprint cars as he ran his rookie year win total to three, this
win being the second in as many weeks.

Blue Springs Country Kitchen Limited Late Model wonder, Kevin 'kid' Coyne, became
the first racing chauffeur in all four classes to reach the 8 wins plateau for 2003.
And for the second week in a row, his victory will let CMS 'Weekly Program' buyers
stop by the Ponderosa Steakhouse in Blue Springs for a free dinner again this week.

Sedalian Street Stock hot-shot 'cool' Clayton Campbell had been buffed out of the
CMS, Missouri Beef Industries Council winner's circle for three weeks. He returned
again with a green to checker win, his seventh at the high-banked clay oval this
season.

It again took six, 8 lap Modified qualifying heats to sort out the first 18 winners
to make the 'A", plus two more last chance races for the final 6.

Heat winners were 'Mr. Experience', Bobby Layne, Mr. IGA, Alan Deatherage, Jimmy
Dowell, Jason 'trouble' Thompson, Aaron 'the raven' Poe and Dean Wille. The 'B's
were won by Basehor, Ks' Tim 'Blue Bunny' Karrick and Willard's Brandon Maggard.

Bobby Layne jumped into the initial lead while being chased closely by Thompson,
Deatherage and Dowell. Charles immediately started sifting up from mid-pack to take
over fourth on lap 11. Thompson proceeded to get around Layne on lap 5, then
appeared to have the right combination as he started a run-away move; that is until
his engine started slowing when a center bolt for one of his cylinder hewds backed
out. Karrick made it from the back of the pack to mid-field when a miscue sent him
off the edge on lap 12 which triggered a yellow with Karrick having to relegate to
the rear. Later in the run, he was caught up in another yellow flag fracas and had
to retire to the sidelines.

On lap 16, Charles charged into second and one lap later got around Layne for the
permanent lead. Layne suffered extreme bad luck when on circuit 19 Wille made
contact with Layne's rear bumper, spinning him sideways and to a stop. Bobby had to
also go to the rear.

Charles kept good distance to collect another win and 1k in as many weeks, 6-time
CMS Modified champ "Fast" Richard Layne ended a 15 car-passing run to cop the $900
second, Wille scored $800 at third, fourth was good for $700 to a new face familiar
to CMS, Brandon Maggard from near Springfield, who came through traffic from 23rd
while Deatherage made a brave comeback from last after suffering a mid-race
half-spin. The effort awarded Deatherage with $600 plus back to the top on the
points list.

To round out the fifth through tenth placers were Tracy (country boy) Wolf ($500),
hanging on going slow but tight, Thompson ($450), John O'Neal, Jr. in his first ever
run at CMS ($400), James McMillin $(350) and 2001 CMS champ, Dowell.

In the Street, Limited and Sprint features, all of the winners drove their way to
victory from green to Hershel Thompson's twin flying checkers.

Street Stocks point leader Jesse 'the dealer' Wheeler was a close second to
Campbell, 'Street Stock King' John Brooks showed 'em how to do it by starting 24th
and weaved his way to third, steady Cole Wimmer made another top five with fourth
and Bobby Raybourn, new to the sport, is learning fast as he advanced to fifth.

Not able to catch sprinter Lett for the second week were second placer Matt
Chevalier, Joe Chevalier in third, fourth was all Jimmy Garner's and the other
Chevalier, 'Dad' Dan came out fifth.

Rookie supreme and second in points Daren Rapp was shadowing Coyne for second in the
Limited Lates, third was well earned by Lance Elwell, Ryan Lovercamp turned in
another 'slideways' spectacular drive from the rear to fourth while John Korff drove
his 'stock' Camaro, all steel, real-deal machine to fifth.

KMMO 'Real Radio' AM-FM "Kid's Race Night" will be held this coming Saturday night,
featuring the 'Kids Foot Race' with awards and prizes. Clowns and Raggedy Andy will
be passing out prizes and balloons to all kids , including free hot dogs and soft
drinks for those 12 years old and under. Admission and opening time, as well as the
entire program, will be the same as with every weekly racing show.

Good night of racing, especially the mod main even though it was a high attrition race. Charles was awesome, he was good anywhere on the track. Went down to the pits afterwards for once and met the Charles family, very nice people and very talkative. I like it when drivers take time out to meet their fans. I'll soon be sporting my new Tom Charles shirt at the track.

See you at the races.
