(Warrensburg) The “Chase for the Championships” tightened up after completion of the features last weekend at Central Missouri Speedway. The ‘Mighty” Modifieds, ULMA Late Models, Street Stocks and B-Modifieds return to the smooth high-banked clay oval surface in Warrensburg on RSC Equipment Rental and LJS Graphics Race Night this Saturday evening.

This season Waterloo Storage Products Victory Lane has seen some familiar drivers celebrating a victory along with some new young drivers. In the modified division, the veteran Concordia driver, Jason Thompson celebrated a feature win for the second time this season along with taking over the Modified points lead. Joe Walker from Harrisonville is just 22 points behind with four top-five finishes in second behind Thompson . A consistent finisher this year, James McMillin from Warrensburg sits in third followed by the up and coming young driver from Easton, Kansas, Tyler Schmidt, in fourth and the veteran Rick Beebe out of Shawnee, Kansas in fifth.

In the ULMA Late Model division, Jason Bodenhamer from Centerview continues to challenge Late Model drivers with his patient approach in the features resulting in his fifth visit into victory lane this season along with seven top-five finishes. Although he is leading the track ULMA Late Model class, Jon Binning out of Warrensburg stays within striking distance in the second spot with a feature win and five top-fives at the finish line. Another bright spot in the division is Lane Ehlert from Foristell in third with Warrensburg’s Brett Wood in fourth, improving his race program with three top-five finishes. Another driver making solid runs into the top-five in points is Brian Pipes from Lone Jack with numerous top-ten finishes this season.

The Street Stock division has a tight battle for the crown which could go down to the final weekend with Warrensburg driver, Chad Eickleberry leading Brian Johnson from Independence by just four points. Johnson has whittled away at Eickleberry’s lead over the past several weeks with both drivers finishing in the top-five at least six times this year. A new name in the top-five is the young driver from Warrensburg, Bryce McMillin climbing into the third spot in points. Bryce has shown more consistency this year and has several top-five finishes. Right behind him is another Concordia driver, Brian Cox with numerous top-ten finishes and rounding out the top-five is a new top-five Street Stock driver, T. J. Faulkenberry from Urich in the John Ake owned machine.

The B-Modified class has been the Brad Smith show this year after he won his fifth feature along with his 12 th overall at several tracks this season. But keep an eye on Dalton Kirk, the 15 year old driver out of Gardner, Kansas with eight top-five finishes keeping pace with Smith only 22 markers out of first. Then another 22 points behind Kirk is Jacob Ebert from Oak Grove in third with six top-fives. Then the Isaacs brothers claim the fourth and fifth spots in points with older brother Ethan with five top-five finishes followed by younger brother Lucas with three top–fives this year. This young class of developing drivers along with some wily veterans bode well for the future of modified racing in the Midwest.

CMS pit gates will open this again this weekend at 4:30, grandstand admission at 5, hot laps at 7 and racing gets underway on the track at 7:30.
