cherry red exhaust

I run a 350 in the streetstock/bomber class. For the first time ever at the end of the race I was told that both sides of my exhaust were cherry red, I have some ideas what it could be but any input would be helpfull. Thank you #64 Brian Crawford

That is normal unless just one pipe would be red and the others not.
The exhaust temp is about 1300 degrees just like a torch at the end of a race that would be normal for the exhaust to be red.

This is the first time my exhaust has ever done this. I have never seen a car in this class do this at least at the track I race at. I have seen mods turn red But this is a first for me. I will double check the timing but is there anything else I should try or look for?

red exhaust.

pull some spark plugs and see if they are showin signs of being lean.it is sometimes normal for both exhaust to get red but it is always good to see what the engine is doin when they do get red, cause there is usually a reason as too why they are glowin.they dont always glow cause of the exhaust temp.

We had the same type of occurance about 7 years ago. We chased after the problem for a couple of weeks and finally found a broken weld where the advance plate attaches to the distributor shaft, right under the HEI module. Good luck on your search.:)

Lean?

Go up two jet sizes, this week. If that does'nt do it; start checking the weird stuff.(like what K-Kat said)

your running WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY to lean on the fuel. check your jets you may have an obstruction somwhere.
thats what i found one i had that problem one time.

Check your timing with a different timing light also, there are more inaccurate timing lights then people realize. Vaccuum leak can also cause the problem you are having.

What is your timing set at?
What type of carburetor?
Did you make ANY changes before this happened?
