Drivers at CMS that receive a mechanical flag or leave the track with a flat tire can now change the tire in a designated area near the hot pit lane. Upon entering the hot pit lane drivers will be directed by track officials to the area under safe speeds and will have three caution laps to change the tire. Drivers intending to change a tire must not enter or make a right turn into the pits and must stay in the car with the driver's safety netting up. Drivers can also choose to turn right into the pits with a flat, but cannot return to the track. Those drivers with a flat and without a pit crew must enter the pits.

Once the last car in line on the track under yellow passes the tire change area the yellow light will go out indicting the final yellow lap and the driver with the changed tire will be directed to follow at the tail end of the line. Drivers must exit the tire change area under safe speeds for pit crew and track official’s safety.

CMS will provide the jack and wrench to change the tire. The driver’s crew must provide the tire along with a minimum of three and maximum of four crew members for the tire change. Crew members must be identified by a crew shirt with the car number/colors for pit crew safety and accountability. Pit crews can only work on their registered car not for other cars/drivers. Pit crews will need to register the pit crew names with Karen Darling at the pit shack when you register for the race.

Starting out this year, drivers and pit crews will receive three yellow caution laps to change tire. This may be reduced to two laps next year. Drivers must obey safe speeds into and out of the tire change area during the cautions.
