Columbus, MS - Saturday night, July 9, Columbus Speedway would be the setting of another Weekly racing Series event. With horrible forecasts along with heavy rain and heavy wind in the area, many race teams decided to stay home, but as the rain hit everything in the area except "The Bullring", the race was on.

"Mr. Untouchable" Jason Hollis would hold the early lead and built a bit of a cushion over a wild, often 5-way battle for second place in the Open-Wheel modified feature. Following a mid-race caution "The Wanted Man" Lee Ray would emerge from the thick battle for the runner-up spot, drive by Hollis on the outside, and set sail. There would be no running down Ray, who went on to take what would be a very popular win. Hollis, Jimmy Brasfield, V6-powered Brian Rickman, and Todd Gray would round out the top five.

Another popular win would come in the Late Model Stock division with what would be possibly the most exciting race of the quickly-run evening. "The High Sheriff" Ruble Maxey, a popular figure of area racing's past, would duel with Chad Nickoles for the early parts of the feature event for the lead, and when Judson Littlejohn made his way up to the front it became a three-way fight. Littlejohn's #3 spun out of contention just before the white flag fell, and Maxey would just hold on for the win over Nickoles. Jeremy Glasgow in third and Jody Guest and Tony Shelton completing the top five.

David Honeycutt would add another Street Stock feature win to his collection. Jonathan Edwards would come out with a strong second-place finish. Mark West, Danny Gable, and Chris Hood would earn top-five honors in the division.

Allen Gilreath ran away with the Mini Stock victory. Greg Ruffin would come home in second place, followed by Stanley Busbin, Austin Broadaway, and Robert Sanders in the top five spots.

John Beard & Richard Barton would take the win in the Two-Person Cruiser division. Jacob Stapp & Cliff Swedenburg would be followed by Jon Stanford & "Pee Wee" for podium honors. Trey Wright would be the Hot Shot division victor.

Next Saturday night marks one of the most prestigious races of the season at Columbus Speedway - The 6th Annual John L. Cliett Tribute featuring the MSCCS and SUPR Shootout! Super Late Model action will head the bill with 59 laps of wild "Bullring-style" action as the two series duke it out for $4,000-to-win. All local divisions will also be in action. Stop by the Columbus Speedway website located at www.ColumbusSpeedway.net for details.
