Scott Dedwylder rolled into Columbus looking for a win at "The Baddest Bullring in the South". On Saturday night, Dedwylder would find what he was looking for - but not without a fight.

Columbus was lucky to have raced at all. Vandals had broken into the speedway and inflicted major damage to both the Columbus Speedway water truck and tractor, destroying the radiator on the tractor and sabotaging the water truck by cutting brake and hydraulic lines, damaging the radiator, putting mud in the fuel tanks, and pouring objects into the turbocharger. Stokes and co. would work long hours overnight to repair the water truck, making it possible to continue with the Weekly Racing Series event on Saturday night. The sabotage attempt did not even manage to considerably slow down the great evening of racing, as the full night of events concluded shortly after 10:30 PM.

MidsouthRacing.com Pole Qualifier Dedwylder (14.24) would start on the Super Late Model feature event front row inside "Ravishing" Rick Rickman, who rode into Saturday night on a 2-race winning streak. Dedwylder would run to the hub on high-running Rickman, holding a slight advantage until Rickmana dn "Marvelous" Mark Stokes tangled on lap two. Rickman would leave the track, with Stokes retaining his position and on the restart, Dedwylder, Stokes, and Glenn Roberts would fan out three-wide racing for the lead. Dedwylder would once again gain the advantage as Roberts and Stokes duked it out door-to-door before another caution fell on lap 4. Stokes would then pull to the pits.

Glenn Roberts would then begin do dog Dedwylder for the lead after the race was officially underway, running the low side under the #33 as Mark Dodson ran the rim above "The Prowler" Shawn Edwards. Another early caution would fall on lap 7, with Dedwylder and Roberts continuing with their side-by-side, rim and hub battle afterwards. Dodson and Edwards were locked in the same brand of exciting action when another yellow flag flew on lap 11. Dedwylder would separate a bit after Robert's challenge on the restart, with the final caution breaking up the action two laps later on lap 13.

Roberts and Dedwylder once again would blast around the track side-by-side, Roberts diving to the hub and Dedwylder running the high line, as Dodson and Edwards fought like wild dogs for second place not far behind. Back in the pack, "The Hamburglar" Alan Jaynes and Roger Shirley would duke it out door-to-door, but soon Dedwylder would find a comfort zone running out front and separate himself from Roberts. Dodson would fall back before Shirley spun without bringing out a caution, giving up 4th to Jaynes.

Dedwylder would reach lapped traffic on lap 26, holding his lead as he sliced and diced through the field ahead on Roberts and the now 3rd-running Edwards. Edwards would catch Roberts as the laps ticked away, moving to the inside and taking second place in turn 3 as Dedwylder charged under the white flag. Dedwylder would run to the win, followed by Edwards, Roberts, Jaynes, and Dodson, who recovered to pull out a top-five. "The Vossburg Vandal" would collect his first Columbus Speedway win of 2004 in his Brown Engineering-powered, Hoosier tire-shod GRT machine.

"Crazy" Chris Glenn would lead the Open-Wheel modified division at the drop of the feature green, with "Fast" Eddie Rickman on his outer flank. The two would race side-by-side, door-to-door around the speedway, with Rickman coming out on top as "Flyin" Brian Rickman charged up to challenge Glenn for second place. A three-way dance would ensue with Glenn, Brian Rickman, and "The Wanted Man" Lee Ray as Eddie Rickman moved out on the pack.

Following an early caution, Glenn and Ray would run door-to-door, lap after lap with no driver holding an advantage behind the still-leading Rickman. Ray would finally wrestle the spot away before another caution fell, and the #2 mahcine would then chase Rickman for the lead, soon running side-by-side around the speedway as Rodney Etheridge, Danny Gable, and Blake Koenigsberger dashed around the track in 3-wide action. Ray continued to dog Rickman until the the final laps of the race, and Matt Price moved in on Glenn to challenge for 3rd. Rickman charged to the checkers to collect the win, followed by Ray, Price, Glenn, and Etheridge.

The Pro Stock divsion may very well have put on the show of the night, with Johnny Swink and Jerry Dozier tearing into turn 1 door-to-door until Randy Bush moved in to challenge Swink. Chad Nickoles wasted little time moving up on the lead pack as Swink rebounded and began racing for the lead with Dozier. Nickoles would make it a three-way battle and when caution fell on lap 6, Nickoles had taken the point.

Mike Langford came from the back to the front and would soon be challenging Nickoles for the lead. The challenge became a classic race track war, lap after lap, which lasted from before the halfway point of the race until the checkered flag fell. Nickoles would pull out the win over Langford, with Dozier, Mike Gore, and Bush in the top five.

"King of the Slidejob" Terry King and Jimmy "Fred" Odom would race for the lead in the early laps of the Street Stock event, with David Honeycutt being sent to the rear after an early caution. Honeycutt was unfazed, charging up through the pack with no help from the caution flag all the way to front. Honeycutt would take the lead from Odom on lap 9 and then move ahead as Jeremy Glasgow and TK King dueled for second place. Honeycutt would collect yet another win at "The Bullring" with King, Glasgow, Mike Barton, and Terry Kelley rounding out the top five.

Stanley Busbin and Austin Broadaway would dash around the track in a battle for the lead at the beginning of Mini Stock action, which saw Keith McCool take a wild flip on the front stretch. McCool would get back in his car, fire it up and go to the pits, and soon "The Ironman" would roll back onto the track ready to get back to business. Scott Gable would make his way through the pack, taking the lead away from Broadaway on lap 9 after lap after lap of side-by-side racing for the point. Gable went on to win, with Broadaway, Busbin, Bo Minor, and Greg Glover taking top-five honors.

Columbus Speedway will be taking Saturday, June 19th off and will resume Weekly Racing Series action on June 26th. The next big event at Columbus will be on July 2nd, as the 4-night, $2,000-to-win Firecracker 4-Crown Super Late Model series makes its way to Columbus Speedway for the second series event. Stop by the Columbus Speedway Official Website located at www.MidsouthRacing.com/columbusindex.htm for details. See everybody in two weeks at "The Baddest Bullring in the South!"
