Commonwealth Cup Late Model Race At Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway Reset For November 14 &15 Late Models $15,000 to Win 50 Lap Main!
By Jay Hardin

The management of Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway has rescheduled the 7th annual Commonwealth Cup race for Late Models for the weekend of November 14 and 15, giving racers and fans one last big weekend before the winter months set in. The rescheduled event carries a format quite similar to the one slated for the original Commonwealth weekend.

Originally slated for October 24 and 25, the Saturday finale was washed out due to many thunderstorms that hit the area that afternoon. Sixteen drivers had qualified for the Commonwealth Cup, and are locked in to the main event. However, late model drivers will have Friday and Saturday night to compete for the remaining 8 starting slots in the Commonwealth Cup feature event, which guarantees $1000 to each starter.

The 50-lap main event is slated for Saturday night November 15. On November 14th, a complete program with late models, modifieds, steel block late models and pure stocks will be presented. A new event, the Bluegrass Shootout for late models will be run as a feature race Friday night paying $2000 to win, and the top two finishers of the Bluegrass Shootout that are not already locked into the Commonwealth Cup feature will be allowed to start 23rd and 24th in Saturday night's big event.

Consolation races for the late models will be run Saturday night, and the remaining six slots for the Commonwealth Cup will be filled from the last chance events. A full program for modifieds, steel block late models and pure stocks will be run in conjunction with the late model events Saturday night.

Fans who purchased tickets for the Saturday, October 25 events in advance will have those tickets honored for Saturday, November 15.

Drivers already locked into the Commonwealth Cup main event include Scott Bloomquist, Terry English, Randy Sellars, Rick Aukland, Billy Faust, Brian Birkhofer, Steve Francis, Steve Russell, Jeep VanWormer, Phil Walker, Randy Korte, Joe Morris, Freddy Smith, Steve Casebolt, Tim Brown and John Tindal.

Tickets for both nights are still available and can be obtained by calling Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway at 270-395-3600, and more information can be obtained at www.klms.com
