Our Prayers Go Out To The Nelson Family On The Passing Of Chuck Who For Years Was A Flagman And Official At Many Area Tracks Also Chuck Was Owner Of Nelson Towing In Edwardsville, Ill

Well..sorry to hear this. He did some towing at tri city also. Our thoughts and prayers goto the family.

i only knew chuck for a short while but in what little time i knew him he was very cool to talk to. probably about a month ago i stopped by his house and he showed me some old racing pictures of when he drove at granite with a country singer (name slips my mind) and told me alot of neat stories. i wish i could have got to know him better .before i left he gave me some things he said that he wasnt going to use anymore and didnt ask me for anything. he will be missed and my prayers are with the family.

The visitation was on Friday night and the funeral was yesterday. Chuck was a great, great person, He will be missed alot.

Chuck was a very great man. He would do anything he could to help someone....anyone. I remember Chuck from about 30 years ago. I would cut grass every week to get the money to go see the races at TCS. Chuck was always eager to talk to a kid and let him feel like he was part of racing. He raced for years and then became a car owner for many drivers such as C.C.Corbin. C.C. and Merle Yates made up a good team with Chuck. When his son Mike got old enough to race, he built some cars for him. Chuck made his way into the flagstand. He ran the race as he wanted it. Everything was kept in check. When we opened our shop in Edwardsville, we got our first racecar. It was kind of like a bloodhound on the trail. Chuck re-introduced his self back into my life. He quickly took up with my family and in a way, actually became part of it. With his arthritis and other health problems, he couldn't do as much as he wanted, but he did alot more than he ever knew. When we worked on a car while he was there, he would always try to find a way to make it easier. He would go get a tool or a part from his stash and gladly give it to us. He would always have a special look of satisfaction when he could help. He wanted to see my son and I race so he would bring his wrecker to the track and pull into the infield to get him a good viewing spot. He was our personal wrecker....ha ha. It was a terrible shock to have gotten the dreadful call. I had just had some good laughs with him and his wife Sharon six hours before his death. He told me he was going to be there Saturday night. He was..........In my heart. See ya Chuck.

I to remember Chuck from many years back as a kid. Watching him race and flag @ TCS. Ken is right anything Chuck could do to help out @ the shop he would, no questions asked. Chuck always made you laugh. He had a special place in his heart for children. I know....... He always took time out to tease and give special attention to my children anytime they where @ the shop with us. Ken , I think Chuck was in all hearts Saturday night. I know he was mine. I wish everyone could have seen the convoy of wreckers that came out Saturday @ the funeral to pay their respects to Chuck. It was awsome.
Chuck you will be greatly missed. And will never be forgotten.
respectfully, Randy Braman

Ken, very well said. Chuck Nelson was a one-of-a kind, great guy. He and I had some great laughs when I announced at Tri-City. I always respected Chuck. I am sorry he is gone. I pray him and his family.
