FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 9, 2004

Kenny Harris among top Valvoline Cup finishers for 2003

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Valvoline Company has announced the winners of the
2003 Valvoline Cup national points championship. Approximately 1,000 of
the more than 91,000 competing drivers will be receiving awards for their
season-long accomplishments, with the awards going as far as 30th place in
each or the 36 Valvoline Cup classes.

The 2003 Valvoline Cup marked the second season of a national championship
that embraces all forms of motorsports competition. In order to compete,
drivers simply register for the program at their local track, by mail or
on the Valvoline Cup website. Competitors then submit their finishes after
each event in which they compete. At the end of the racing season, each
driver is awarded points based on the best 15 finishes.

The Valvoline Cup provides classes for drivers in every form of
motorsports.

Kenny Harris of Desloge, MO finished 12th nationally in the Dirt Stock
class of the Valvoline Cup. Harris, who earned Valvoline Cup points in
competition at Saint Francois County Raceway, will share in a prize pool
of over $500,000, which includes a combination of cash, a Valvoline Racing
products support package, product rebates, equipment from Lincoln Electric
Company, support from oil analysis laboratory Titan Laboratories, crew
uniform discounts from Blair Custom Wear, trophies and certificates.

There are no Valvoline Cup program rules with respect to the cars, tracks
and racing. Instead, the rules of the tracks and sanctioning organizations
under which each driver competes govern that driver and the car. The
Valvoline Cup measures the success of a driver within his or her racing
program relative to the success of other drivers in similar vehicles
within their program. The program is presented without cost to drivers or
tracks.

The Valvoline Cup is only the latest example of Valvoline's support of
grassroots racers. Valvoline is a contingency sponsor in NHRA drag racing
and for the past six years has been the No. 1 choice of motor oil by NHRA
sportsman-class racers at NHRA pro events. For the past 17 years,
Valvoline has sponsored the national championships for the SCCA Valvoline
Runoffs®. Associate sponsors of the 2003 Valvoline Cup have been
Lincoln Electric Company, Titan Laboratories and Blair Custom Wear.

Drivers and others interested in the 2004 Valvoline Cup program can learn
more about the program on the official Valvoline Cup website at
www.valvolinecup.com, or by contacting Valvoline Cup program headquarters
at PO Box 43887, Birmingham, AL 35243.
