Macon – Luckily the rain went out of its way not to hit Macon Speedway Saturday night. The unusually soft dirt track created a fast outside lane. Cory Daugherty of Blue Mound put the weather to good use and broke the Macon Speedway Late Model qualifying record. Daugherty posted a 10.453 second lap that bested the record of Joe Ross Jr. set in 2001.

Kyle Logue won the Chevrolet Late Model race hoping his car would hold together long enough to hold off challengers Cory Daugherty and Kevin Weaver. “I felt a vibration in my car. I just took it smooth and easy.” Logue won the first of the Big Ten Midwest Challenge, a ten race series hosted by Macon Speedway and Morgan County Raceway.

In his first win in a Macon Speedway Modified feature, Jeremy Nichols made it look like he’d won a dozen before. Nichols was relatively unchallenged throughout the race. While allthe grip seemed to be on the top of the race track, Nichols and his team tuned his car to hug the bottom, “We made an adjustment. I knew it would be there.” Nichols said.

The Hogan Grain/Kubota Sportsman race came down to two Macon Speedway regulars, Mike Pickering and Norm Wood. After leading the first 12 laps, Wood found himself on the inside lane of the challenger Pickering. On any other night, being on the outside would’ve put Pickering at a disadvantage. The outside speed shot Pickering out front and to an easy victory.
Joe Reed won his second Pro Hornet class feature of the season and Mike Pickering picked up his first Street stock win this year.
