After a one day postponement for rain, the Malden Speedway concluded it's 2003 season with a successful 2nd Annual Cotton Boll Cup. Including late additions, there were a track record 160 cars from 7 states entered in the event. Jeff Floyd put on a show in leading all 40 laps of the $5,000 to win Late Model feature. Robby Arnold moved up from the third row to take the Modified cup. Scott Tracer took the checkered in the Hobby Stock feature.

Jared Wagster led from start to finish to take the Pure Street title. Scott Austin and Darrell Ham returned to victory lane in the Cruiser feature.

Jeff Floyd took the lead from the outside front row and never trailed in the Late Model feature. Floyd and Jerry Buck quickly separated themselves from the rest of the field. The first 27 laps were ran caution free and the lead pair had a half lap lead on the third place car and had lapped 10 of the 19 car field. On the lap 27 restart following the race's first caution, Dane Dacus and Jerry Buck got together in turn two, with Buck's car making a sharp right turn into the oncoming cars. With no place to go, Buck's
teammate, Steve Rushin collided with him, causing Buck's car to roll over.

Although Buck would return to the race a couple of laps later his shot for the title was ended. On the second try at a restart, Billy James and Carey Conaway got together in the same spot, ending Conaway's run and any shot James had at victory. On lap 28, Joey Mack moved into second, but never seriously challenged Floyd the final 12 laps. Brian Wolfmeir moved up from the 11th starting position to take third. Steve Rushin also was a hardcharger, capturing fourth after starting 14th. Frank Martin
rounded out the top five.

Jeff Sloan and Steve Rushin won the B-Mains. Friday night's heats were won by Conaway, Floyd, Buck, and James.

Robby Arnold started fifth and patiently moved up to win the Modified Feature. Jared Wagster and Bart Richardson opened the race in the lead. They built a modest margin on the field early. Richardson took the lead on lap 4, and following a 2 lap side by side battle, Wagster regained the lead on lap 6. On lap 10, Arnold began making his move to the front. He picked off a position on each the 10th, 11th and 12th laps to move into second. Arnold got a good jump on a lap 17 restart following caution to take the lead from Wagster. Richardson, Jeff Greene, and Wagster put on a pitched battle for second before Richardson took the spot on lap 19.

Richardson closed to Arnold's rear bumper but could get no closer. Wagster held on for third. Peyton Taylor made a late run to take fourth. Scooter Scruggs moved up from the 22nd starting position to take fifth.

Pennington grabbed the second spot from Cook on lap five and closed to
Tracer's bumper by lap 6. From that point on, Pennington and Cook were
lurking just behind Tracer. Pennington held off Cook for second. Jeff
Greene
outdueled Tim Winchester for fourth. The field was very evenly matched,
as
evidenced by the fact the final 18 laps were run under green and Tracer
was
still a half lap away from any lapped traffic. Great show by the whole
