Inside Line Promotions - POCOLA, Okla. (April 23, 2019) - Roger Crockett earned a top-five result last Saturday during a tune-up before the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour season begins this week.

Crockett joined the ASCS Sooner Region on Saturday at Tri-State Speedway, where he advanced from fourth to third place in a heat race. That earned him a spot into the feature redraw and he pulled the No. 8 to line up on the outside of the fourth row for the A Main.

"We were a little off in the heat race, but got the car a lot better for the main," he said. "The second half of the race I had some confidence in the car and was driving it how I should. The car had the speed really to win, but it's hard to say that when you start eighth and aren't near the leaders. Driven right I think we had a top-three car. I just needed to be more aggressive early."

Crockett maneuvered to a fifth-place finish, which is the confidence building performance needed as the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour kicks off this Thursday at Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Neb., before shifting to U.S. 36 Raceway in Osborn, Mo., on Friday.

"With the ASCS format I feel like if things go our way we certainly have a chance to win either night," he said. "I haven't been to either track, but I don't feel like that's an excuse not to perform. What I'm looking to do this year is overcome being put in tough positions. We had the worst average draw last year until we pulled off the series. We need to capitalize on that by moving forward and earning a lot of passing points."

Although the races at Eagle Raceway and U.S. 36 Raceway will mark Crockett's debut at both high-banked ovals, he is confident he can contend for a win like he did during the ASCS National Tour's season-opening weekend last year.

"I've heard a lot of stories about Eagle when they ran 360 cars regularly," he said. "I've watched a few videos, too. It looks like it should be a lot of fun."
