Clearfield, PA – (July 3, 2009) – Jason Shank – O’Reilly All Star Late Model Series Director

It was Greencastle, PA’s D.J. Myers taming the ultra fast Central Pennsylvania Speedway as he survived a late race caution with pressure from O’Reilly All Star Late Model Series regular Robbie Blair to collect his first career ASLMS victory in the 34th Annual ‘Yankee Doodle 50’.

Thompson, PA’s Dan Stone and Blair led the crop of 24 drivers to the green with Blair blasting to the early lead but the lead was short lived as former World of Outlaws Late Model Series Champion Tim McCreadie, who also just returned from a broken back suffered at January’s Chili Bowl, slide over the banking in turns one and two to bring out the first caution of the event. When action resumed, the ‘Titusville Terror’ continued to lead while NASCAR Superstar Ken Schrader also went over the banking in turns one and two but recovered to keep the event green until Stone slowed with a flat tire on lap four.

The action was fast and furious when racing resumed while ASLMS regular and new CPS Track Record Holder Coleby Frye drifted over the banking surrendering his top-five spot as D.J. Myers was making his way through the field from his twelfth starting position. After two quick cautions on laps seven and eight for Ron Davies and Keith Barbara, who was also running in the top-five, Myers continued his assault on ‘The Big Bear’.

After a handful of cautions, mostly for flat tires, Myers made his way around budding star Gregg Satterlee for second and set his sights on race leader Blair. D.J. caught Robbie and made his move on lap 19 to take the lead in his Gunter’s Honey, PPM Chassis, Hershey Racing Engines sponsored mount. Myers stretched his lead out ASLMS point leader Boom Briggs brought out a caution for a flat tire on lap 31 tightening the field. Briggs returned at the tail of the field while Myers continued to lead.

Boom, racing for points, had the hammer down and was back into the top-five with a mere five laps remaining Myers looked to have the event in the bag as the laps wound down but a caution for the flat tire of Jeremy Miller on lap 49 set up a green-white-checkered finish with Blair on the rear deck-lid of Myers. D.J. was able to fend off Blair to garner his first ASLMS feature win with Blair coming home second, Satterlee, Briggs after a lap 31 flat tire came home fourth and Devin Friese rounded out the top five. Scott Haus was sixth, Matt Gaston seventh, eighth was Jeff Rine, Rod Conley came home ninth with Jared Miley in a borrowed car from Benny Gordon was tenth.
