(CHICKAMAUGA, GEORGIA) Dale McDowell, or “MacDaddy” as he is known around the country, drove his J&J Steel / New Vision Graphics / S&H Motorsports #17m Larry Shaw-Rocket / Racetek Grand Prix to a pair of fifth place finishes on the World of Outlaws Stacker2 Late Model Series circuit over the Labor Day holiday weekend. Dale finished fourth in his heat race at the Twin Cities Raceway Park in Vernon, Indiana on Friday evening to earn the thirteenth place starting spot for the ‘Indiana Labor Day Classic 50’ feature event. Dale made a charge to the front, passing eight cars in the 50-lap affair. He was battling Rick Eckert hard at the end of the event for the fourth position.

The action then turned to the Tri-City Speedway in Franklin, Pennsylvania on Sunday evening. Dale won his heat race and finished second in the dash event to earn the outside front row starting spot for the $10,000 to win feature event. Dale went a little soft in his right front tire selection and the decision hurt him a little. He dropped back a couple of spots throughout the course of the 50-lap feature event to log another fifth place finish.

“We had a pair of solid finishes last weekend and really that is how our last month or so has been,” stated McDowell via telephone on Tuesday. “We have had a pretty fast race car and have consistently finished in the top five. I just missed in qualifying at Vernon on Friday night and we started too far back in the feature. Then at Tri-City on Sunday, we started up front, but missed on tire selection. Some of those guys on the tour can go a little softer on the right front, but it doesn’t fit my driving style. We ran second for awhile, but then dropped back a few spots throughout the race. It was still a good weekend for us and we are currently getting our equipment ready for Eldora. We qualified well back there in June for the Dream 100, but it was a little too good. The invert really hurt us, but we all know that they are going to invert every year, so you have to deal with it.”

The #17m is currently in the sixth position in the 2005 World of Outlaws Stacker2 Late Model Series point standings after thirty-three events. He trails point leader Steve Francis by 154 points. Dale has amassed two victories, fourteen Top Five runs, and twenty-four Top Ten finishes in the thirty-three events this season. He has earned $112,655 in prize money thus far on the circuit. The Chickamauga, Georgia driver finished fourth in last year's inaugural version of the WoO point standings.

Dale and the Dale McDowell Racing team will tackle the famed Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio this weekend. The grand-daddy of all Dirt Late Model races takes place this Friday and Saturday at the 1/2-mile, high-banked dirt oval in west-central Ohio and Dale will be on hand to vie for the annual ‘World 100’ crown. Qualifying for the event will take place on Friday night, with heat races, the B-Main event, and the 100-lap, $38,000 to win ‘World 100’ set for Saturday evening.
