Welcome, North Carolina (08/23/17) – After a few weeks of bad luck Dale McDowell bounced back on Thursday night to pilot the Shane McDowell Racing #17m Will Kinzer Foundation/ Sweet-Bloomquist Chassis Super Late Model to victory in the 13[sup]th[/sup] Annual Scorcher.
“Between Cedar Lake and Florence, things couldn’t have gone much worse for us,” McDowell commented. “Mechanical failures, bad luck, you name it, we’ve had it all. Tonight though things couldn’t have gone much better. These young guns out here are tough, and really made me get up on the wheel to get the job done. I’m glad to get this hot rod back in Victory Lane and get things pointed back in the right direction.”
Thursday night found Dale McDowell in action at Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tennessee) for the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series sanctioned program. Drawing 30 entries for the 13[sup]th[/sup] Annual Scorcher, McDowell followed up the second fastest time in his qualifying group with a 10-lap heat race win. Earning the pole position for the feature, Dale led flag-to-flag, capturing his fifth win of the season over Ross Bailes, Vic Hill, Casey Roberts, and Dennis Franklin. McDowell was awarded a $10,000 payday for his dominant performance in the 50-lap affair.
Saturday night took the team to North Georgia Speedway (Chatsworth, Georgia), where the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Series (SNBS) posted a $10,000 winner’s check for the 60-lap finale. Forty-three entries took part in the event, and a heat race win moved McDowell to the finale. He would race in the Top-5 throughout the finale, and actually took the lead from Mike Marlar on lap 56, only to have a caution nullify the pass. Dale went on to finish in the runner-up position behind Marlar. Brandon Overton, Michael Page, and Donald McIntosh completed the Top 5.
The weekend drew to close on Sunday evening with a $5,300-to-win, Schaeffer’s Oil SNBS event at Rome Speedway (Rome, Georgia). Dale would enjoy another solid outing as he came away with a 4[sup]th[/sup]-place finish behind Mike Marlar, Brandon Overton, and Shanon Buckingham with Casey Roberts in 5[sup]th[/sup].
