(CHICKAMAUGA, GEORGIA) Dale McDowell had another strong run in one of Dirt Late Model’s high-profile events last week, as he posted a runner-up finish in the $30,000 to win ‘Scorcher 100’ at the Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tennessee. The Chickamauga, Georgia native turned the quickest lap in qualifying last Wednesday and went on to claim a heat race win. The heat victory enabled him to earn the pole position for the 100-lap feature event on Thursday. In front of a packed house on Thursday, Dale led the opening laps of the event before being overtaken by fellow “Dirty Dozen” member Rick Eckert. Dale then dropped back to third on lap seventeen, as Skip Arp was able to get by in turns three and four. After Arp retired from the event, Dale spend the final sixty laps of the event trying to catch Eckert for the lead. Following a competition yellow on lap seventy-five, Dale’s car got much better and he turned up the pressure on Eckert. However, a caution with only five laps to go halted McDowell’s run. He crossed the checkered flag in the second position and claimed $15,700 for his efforts.

“It was a good run for us, but I hated to see that last caution,” stated McDowell on Monday from his race shop. “Rick (Eckert) was good all night long, but we made some changes at the break with twenty-five to go and really started rolling. When I saw the caution come out with five laps to go, I knew our shot at the win went out the window. We had a good month though, as we finished in the top five in all of the big paying races. Hopefully, we can keep up the consistency and finish out the 2005 season on a positive note.”

Dale was also slated to be in action on Friday in a World of Outlaws Stacker2 Late Model Series event at the Western Kentucky Speedway in Madisonville, Kentucky, but that event was rained out following a torrential downpour in the area.

The driver dubbed as “MacDaddy” and the team will bring their J&J Steel / New Vision Graphics / S&H Motorsports #17m Larry Shaw-Rocket / Racetek Grand Prix to the Twin Cities Raceway Park in Vernon, Indiana this Friday night for a World of Outlaws Stacker2 Late Model Series event. The $10,000 to win ‘Indiana Labor Day Classic 50’ will be held this coming Friday night at the 3/8-mile, high-banked dirt oval. Dale will then take Saturday to travel to Sunday’s World of Outlaws event at the Tri-City Speedway in Franklin, Pennsylvania. The ‘Bossard GM Store / Todd Donovan Memorial 50’ is on tap at the 1/2-mile, semi-banked oval on Sunday and a $10,000 payday is on the line. The #17m is currently in the sixth position in the 2005 World of Outlaws Stacker2 Late Model Series point standings after thirty-one events. He trails point leader Billy Moyer by 148 points. Dale has amassed two victories, twelve Top Five runs, and twenty-two Top Ten finishes in the thirty-one events this season. He has earned $108,255 in prize money thus far on the circuit. The Chickamauga, Georgia driver finished fourth in last year's inaugural version of the WoO point standings.
