MADISON, Ill. – It was announced today by JR Motorsports, the NASCAR Nationwide Series team co-owned by NASCAR Cup Series owner Rick Hendrick and two-time Gateway International Raceway winner Dale Earnhardt Jr., that open-wheel racing star Danica Patrick is scheduled to race the Oct. 23 NNS event here.

Patrick’s 2010 NNS schedule was released earlier today with her scheduled for at least 12 races with the series’ opener at Daytona still listed as To Be Determined. The race at Gateway is her only appearance at a non-Cup facility.

“I’m thrilled to announce our 2010 Nationwide Series schedule,” said Patrick in a press release accompanying the schedule. “Like I’ve said before, we just want to be smart and calculative about this process. The tracks we’ve selected not only compliment the IndyCar schedule, but will give me quality seat time at a variety of facilities.”

The IndyCar Series winner, a native of Roscoe , Ill. , would not be able to race at GIR in July for the track’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series/Nationwide Series doubleheader weekend as she is racing in Toronto with IndyCar. With her open-wheel schedule finishing Oct. 2 at the IndyCar series’ finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Patrick be free to race her No. 7 JR Motorsports machine in the final six NNS events of the season.

Gateway International Raceway General Manager Terry Harmeson said the track welcomes the opportunity to host the media darling and racing star. “Having Danica at Gateway is definitely a plus for us,” he said. “Having a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series/Nationwide Series doubleheader in July and then being able to cap off our season by showcasing one of the biggest names in our sport can only be a positive for us and for the racing community in the area.”

Also expected to race at Gateway’s two Nationwide Series races in 2010 are two-time winner and 2007 series’ champ, Carl Edwards; 2009 NNS rookie of the year and Riverton, Ill., native Justin Allgaier; and GIR’s qualifying record holder Brad Keselowski, racing a Penske Dodge as a teammate to Allgaier.
