Inside Line Promotions - KANSAS CITY, Kan. (Oct. 23, 2018) - Mason Daniel qualified for the main event with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series last Friday during the FVP Platinum Battery Shootout at Lakeside Speedway in just his second-ever start in a 410ci winged sprint car and second career race with the series.

The native of Springville, Calif., was sixth quickest in hot laps to open the night with a solid field of 27 cars in attendance. Daniel then timed in 23rd quickest in time trials.

"We were really good in hot laps and were trying to transfer that speed over to qualifying and there was just a driver mistake," he said. "The car was fast enough to be up there in qualifying and I just made a mistake. When you make a mistake at other levels of racing or with other series you can get away with it, but with the Outlaws, they are the best of the best, so any little mistake hurts you."

Daniel finished sixth in the second eight-lap heat race after starting eighth, which earned him a spot into the 30-lap main event.

"In the heat race the car was really good," he shared. "It was nice to transfer from the heat race and not have to run the B Main. Once we were in the main event, we were just getting laps and experience."

In the main event, Daniel lined up 17th and raced a couple of veteran drivers in the early going of the 30-lap race. He wound up completing 28 of the 30 laps and crossed the finish line a respectable 19 th. Even more important than the finish was logging laps against the World of Outlaws drivers and learning every time he was on the track.

"At the start and for the first 10 laps we were really good," he said. "A 410 is a different beast than a 360 and I think I got tired and started making more mistakes than I would have early in the race. That's what caused us to fall back. Any time you can watch what the guys ahead of you are doing, that's a huge advantage. Turns three and four kind of did what it did last time we were there in the spring. It had moisture and slowly moved up the track. Turns one and two had a hole in the entry like it had early this season."

The event at Lakeside put a wrap on Daniel's 2018 season, which marked his first season in a sprint car and first season racing in the Midwest.
