Relations Director

Danny Lasoski saw an opportunity and seized it.

Starting on the outside of the second row Friday night in the World of
Outlaws Sprint Series preliminary feature at The Dirt Track at Las
Vegas Motor Speedway, Lasoski sliced to the bottom in the first corner
and swept into the lead in front of pole-sitter Paul McMahan and Jason
Solwold.

Once in front, Lasoski survived five restarts in the Bass Pro Shops
Mopar Eagle as he held off Solwold early and Craig Dollansky late to
capture his fifth preliminary feature of the season and earn the pole
for the Stacker 2 Dash on Saturday night that will determine the top
six positions for the main event and 2005 season finale.

Dollansky charged from 10th to finish second in the VMAC/Karavan J&J,
with Solwold hanging on for third in the City Wide Insulation Schnee.
Tim Shaffer and the Casey’s General Store Maxim made an incredible save
to grab the final lock-in position to Saturday’s main event after he
was collected in a crash on the first lap of his heat race.

Brandon Wimmer in the Astro Titanium/AbbyLou.org Maxim was fifth,
followed by Brooke Tatnell in the Castol/Steel Dreams Eagle, Jac
Haudenschild in the Beef Packers/HR Cattle Eagle, Jason Meyers in the
Elite Landscaping Maxim, Daryn Pittman in the Titan Garages & Carports
Maxim and Terry McCarl in the Big Game Treestands Eagle.

Lasoski was rolling along the top of the half-mile oval until he caught
the rear of the field on Lap 6. McMahan and Solwold pushed hard to keep
pace but a caution with nine laps down gave Lasoski clear track and
clean air. He quickly raced back to the cushion on the restart as
Solwold carried his momentum under McMahan to grab second with Steve
Kinser trying to swipe third before another caution waved.

Lasoski couldn’t shake Solwold, who was able to run about a groove
lower, on the next restart but a lap later a third caution waved as
Kinser again had tried to get around McMahan.

With 12 laps down and Lasoski holding off Solwold, Kinser completed the
pass on McMahan’s Selma Shell Maxim as Dollansky and Shaffer began
their marches toward the top five.

Then the locked-in positions would change twice as first McMahan went
out with what appeared to be engine trouble on Lap 20 then Kinser’s
right rear would go down on the restart, eventually letting go a lap
later.

Dollansky took advantage by charging to the inside of Solwold and
sweeping into second in Turns 1 and 2 with two to go. Lasoski was able
to keep his momentum rolling around the top as Dollansky tried to cut
the gap on the bottom with Solwold fending off Shaffer as they came to
the checkered flag.

“I started behind [Solwold] and never saw anybody at any time,” said
Lasoski, a Mean 15 racer from Dover, Mo., who on Saturday will be
seeking his third A-feature victory of the season and his two-night
event sweep of the month. “When we got to the lapped cars I started
taking bigger arcs. I figured if somebody was going to get me it was
going to be then. The restarts probably helped me because I had clean
air over my car, but I would have liked to have gotten a few lapped
cars in between us.”

Lasoski knew he had to take a chance on the first lap in the first
corner when he saw McMahan and Solwold just barely slide up the track.
Once he completed the pass, he was able to hang on for the remaining 24
laps.

“Luck. Plain and simple luck,” Lasoski said. “Sometimes when you’re on
the front row the guys go in and miss it when they don’t have a full
head of steam. That’s what will happen. It looked like the guys got a
little tight and they bounced a little bit, our car turned and that was
the race right there.”

Dollansky was strong from the drop of the green flag as he picked his
way through the lead pack of cars, had strong restarts and was
especially smooth on the bottom.

“It seemed like we just kept getting better and better there,” said
Dollansky, a Mean 15 racer from Elk River, Minn., who is seeking his
third A-feature win of the seaon on Saturday. “I got a little bit loose
on entry, but I was able to be able to deal with it and get through the
center of the corner pretty good. I was able to move around, too, and
make some things happen. I got some lines on different guys and it was
working for us.

“To be locked in is definitely nice. You just have to watch the
racetrack and pay attention to what’s going on with the racetrack. It’s
just been tough for us. We lost another racecar last weekend. We’ll try
to finish the season out on a positive note and get ready for next
year.”

Solwold pushed his machine hard, driving it in deep at each end as he
tried to slide past Lasoski. Every time it looked as if he was about to
pull even with Lasoski, a caution would come out and force him back in
line.

“I think the lapped traffic would have been pretty good because he was
stuck on the top and we were decent on the bottom,” said Solwold, a
native of Mt. Vernon, Wash., who will finish second to Shane Stewart in
the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year race. “On the last restart I
followed him around the top to see if I could get him at the other end,
but we lost too much ground and Craig got by me. I thought we had
something for him in the middle, but that’s the way it goes.

“We wanted to end the season good. We put a new motor in tonight and it
was working pretty good. We’re happy where we finished. We’re trying to
finish this deal strong. We didn’t have a very good middle of the year
after having a good beginning so we’re trying to make the end of the
year count.”

Shaffer was excited to be locked-in for Saturday, especially
considering that on the first lap of his heat race he barely made it to
the flag stand before a spinning car in front of him took him out. His
crew made quick repairs in the heat, allowing him to drive into a
transfer spot that helped him finish fourth in the main event, even
with a bent rear end and driveline from the hear race incident.

“We had a great car,” said Shaffer, a Mean 15 racer from Aliquippa,
Pa., who is looking for his fourth victory of the season on Saturday.
“We ran a little harder tire, which took a while to get going. It hurt
us on the start, but it got better and better. The track came to us. I
could run right through the rough part, too, so it was a pretty cool
deal.

“It’s awesome, really awesome [to be locked in]. To get in through the
heat and everything. The night started off looking like it was a
disaster and it turned out good. That’s all teamwork. None of us ever
quit. We kept working hard at it and got lucky getting locked in. We
had a good car, but we had some luck tonight. We’ll take it.”

Wimmer, a rookie contender seeking his first Outlaws victory of the
season, was able to hold his ground throughout the feature even with
cars all around him having trouble.

“Everything’s been going really good lately,” said Wimmer, a Mean 15
racer from Fairmount, Ind., who graduated from high school in June.
“Since I got glasses it’s unbelievable how much better I can see the
track and see where I need to be. The beginning of the race was awesome
and at the end when it started to get choppy the car didn’t want to go
through it real well and I lost a couple of spots. Fifth isn’t bad.
Hopefully we’ll come back tomorrow and have a repeat or do even better
and finish off the year on a good note.”

The Outlaws conclude the 2005 season with the finale Saturday night at
the Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
