LaSalle, IL - Tonica’s Ryan Dauber and Frank Reaber, of Bensenville, had more in common then their former track championship titles when they pulled out of the LaSalle Speedway Saturday night. The pair split the Late Model double feature wins adding to their already impressive seasons.

For the first twenty-five lap feature the two found themselves side by side with Reaber as the pole sitter. The first seven laps were caution plagued as Reaber led Dauber, Bret Seivert, Elmhurst’s Jim Partipilo, Skip Martin of McHenry, Mike Mataragas and Granville’s Darin Furar.

One lap later, Partipilo moved into second but not for long as Dauber charged the low groove in his hot pursuit of the lead. During Lap 13, Dauber was on the run and captured the front runner position leaving Reaber behind.

With a mere seven laps remaining, Dauber hit the infield tire coming off of turn two but kept his charge forward as Reaber and Partipilo battled for second. Reaber’s higher line became costly as he found himself trapped behind lapped traffic.

When the checkers dropped, Dauber was alone with Partipilo crossing the finish line over Reaber, Furar, Garrett Slager, and Seivert in a borrowed ride. Earlier in the evening Seivert earned the fastest qualifier title but succumbed to engine woes during the Dash fellow competitor Bill Rezutek offered his car so Seivert could stay in the points chase..

Dixon’s Tim Hamburg finished seventh over Mataragas, Mike Glynn and Jay Fiene of West Chicago.

Like the first feature, the beginning of the second saw several yellows. The first lap set the stage in fiery fashion as the front of Glynn’s car became engulfed in flames due to an unusual carburetor mishap. Thankfully the LaSalle driver’s protective gear left him unscathed.

Reaber’s pole position became great starting ground as he quickly pulled away from Dauber, Fiene, Partipilo and Martin.

During Lap 12, Reaber was running the same line as the car he was attempting to lap when Dauber seemed to be reeling Reaber in but Reaber continued his control of the field.

After a caution seven laps later, the single file line up placed Dauber on his rear again with Fiene, Partipilo, Martin, Hamburg and Tony Izzo Jr. behind them. The green would not stay out til the end as another yellow flew with only eleven of the original nineteen cars on the track for the restart.

For the four remaining laps, Dauber worked the highest useable spot on the cushion but he just didn’t have enough green flag racing left to catch him. Hamburg placed third over Fiene, Izzo, Martin, Dan Source, Bill Rezutek, Tim Brach and Slager.

Reaber won the Dash in front of Fiene, Martin and Partipilo. Tom Newquist won the first Heat with Rezutek, Furar and Mataragas trailing. Hamburg won the fast Heat over Glynn, Fiene and Dauber.

Lapped traffic helped and almost ruined Ralph Markham’s run during his quest for the Midwestern Late Model win. His front row outside start gave him the opportunity to accelerate into a rapid lead.

With eight laps in the books, Markham was pulling away but two laps later Streator’s Shane Hill put the pressure on catching him on the back stretch. Stronger off the corners, Markham never bobbled.

On Lap 17, he found himself fending off a new contender as Tonica’s Eric Dauber was hunting him down from a seventh place start. Like Hill, Dauber would catch him on the back stretch but the corners belonged to Markham. At one point a lapped car was running the same groove and held Markham for Eric to gain but Markham quickly found an opening leaving him stuck.

With four to go, lapped traffic fighting for their own positions held up Eric’s mad dash.

Markham earned the victory narrowly over Eric in second, Hill third over an impressive run by Dan Thryselius who started out in fourteenth on the grid. Cody Sommer crossed the line fifth but was later disqualified during tech inspection enabling Rob Piper to collect the fifth place money over Tony Coglianese, Joe Adam, Wally Forsythe and John Piccatto.

Keith Piano outlasted a caution filled Midwestern Sportsman feature that finished with only seven drivers.

Jeff Hartzell ended his run in second over Fleety Beltz of LaSalle, Todd Carpenter, Tina Soberri, Scott Hauge and Jake Patterson.

Chuck Leason powered up from his outside start on the front row to capture the Street Stock feature race victory. Gary Schmidt finished second over Tom Otrembiak, Nick Sell, John Peterson, Shawn Mikolatis, Steve Lewis, Brent Carlson and Jay Mesarchik.
