Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (April 7, 2014) – The engines fire to life as the green flag officially flies for the first time of the Dodge City Raceway Park season with this Saturday night’s season opener that features a full card of championship chase action.
Saturday’s kickoff that includes IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and Thunder Cars on the 3/8-mile clay oval along with Hornets on the inner asphalt oval gets under way at 7:30 p.m.
The opening leg of the championship chase on Saturday is the first of a dozen scheduled events for the IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sport Modifieds with eleven nights of action on tap for IMCA Stock Cars and Thunder Cars and nine nights of Hornet competition.
The complete 2014 schedule of events at Dodge City Raceway Park encompasses 15 nights with special events including the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars Boothill Showdown, a returns of Late Models with a MARS vs. NCRA Showdown, the Steve King Memorial, the USAC Southwest Sprint Car Freedom Tour and four URSS Sprint Car stops that bolster the track’s thrilling championship chase action.
Austin Allen reigns as the defending IMCA Modified track champion after edging Jesse Smith and Ryan Heger in a hard-fought battle for the 2013 crown. Jon Herring, Jr., and Kevin Gray rounded out the top five in points.
Woodward’s Jeff Kaup captured the 2013 IMCA Sport Modified title, Billy Phelps topped the IMCA Stock Car ranks, Dustin Walker claimed Thunder Car honors and Jarett Lunow reigned supreme in Hornets.
Tickets to Saturday’s season opener at Dodge City Raceway Park are just $10 for adults with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Pit passes are $30.
