WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa (April 9) - With the cooperation of Mother Nature, the third time will be a charm for opening night of the Deery Brothers Summer Series. The 17th annual tour for I.M.C.A. Sunoco Late Models is now set to get underway Saturday, April 12 at 34 Raceway in West Burlington. Completing the weekend doubleheader is the Sunday, April 13 show at Quincy, Ill., Raceway. Two previous attempts to start the season at Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City were trumped by rain and generally miserable weather conditions on March 29 and again April 5. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. this Saturday, with hot laps at 6:30 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m. The event is also the first for Larry Kemp since his return to promotional helm of the 3/8 mile track he had owned and operated in the 1980s. Modified and hobby stock classes run in support of the Late Models at 34. Gates to the pit area at Bob Scott's 1/4 mile Quincy Raceway open at 4 p.m. Hot laps are at 6 p.m. and racing is set to start at 6:30 p.m. Along with a $1,000 Late Model dash for cash, the card also features A-modifieds and bombers. A second Deery Series twinbill April 18 at Davenport Speedway and April 19 at Jackson County Speedway in Maquoketa precedes the start of the national I.M.C.A. Sunoco Late Model point season on April 25. Fourteen dates are on the 2003 Deery schedule, with the series set to return to 34 Raceway for a two-day show Aug. 13-14 and to Quincy on Aug. 31.
