(Star Country Music Group To Play Post-race Concert Following NASCAR Race on May 8)
Madison, IL - Gateway International Raceway announced today that country music group Diamond
Rio will play a concert following the NASCAR Busch Series Race on Saturday, May 8. The green-flag
will drop at 7 PM and be followed by a spectacular fireworks show. The Diamond Rio concert will
conclude the incredible evening of entertainment at Gateway.
"The hits keep on coming at Gateway in 2004," said Matt Strelo, Gateway's General Manager. He
added, "We want to be known as the Midwestern Track where the NASCAR fans can come for not only
great races, but also an unprecedented day and night of high quality entertainment."
Diamond Rio's 15-year career has spawned nearly 20 top-10 hits on the country music charts including
"In a Week or Two", "Imagine That", "You're Gone" and the Grammy nominated single "One More
Day." The song "One More Day" was played as a tribute to NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt following
his death in February of 2001, and later that year was revived as one of America's 'healing' songs in the
wake of the events of September 11. In the 90's all six of Diamond Rio's records went gold, with three
earning Platinum status.
The 2003 Busch Race at Gateway finished in dramatic fashion as Scott Riggs edged out Mike Bliss in
the final lap. This year's race should be another exciting event as Greg Biffle, Bobby Hamilton Jr. and
St. Louis native Kenny Wallace are just a few of the racers who will battle it for the checkered flag.
