In 2003, MATT MILLER will feature nine major sponsors and seven product sponsors as he makes a run for the 2003 XTREME DIRT CAR SERIES Rookie of the Year title. On January 21, 2003, BILL ELLIOTT brought his GRT Ford Power Super Late Model to Golden Isles Speedway. RAY COOK, one of the top drivers with UDTRA, X-STREAM Series, assisted Bill in learning the track. If his schedule allows, he will be back on the 2nd of Feb. to do battle with the best Super Late Model drivers across the US.

STEVE SHAVER has joined forces with Bill and Mike Bland of Bill Bland Motorsports to field their #0 Rocket Chassis team cars this season on a national level. The team is sponsored by The Farm Used Auto Parts, Bland Towing, Dave Poske’s Performance Parts, United Bank of West Virginia, Lakeview Estates, The Guard Cleaning, Carrera Shocks, Hoosier Tire, Sunoco Race Fuels, and Panther Motorsports Graphics & Design. STEVE BAKER will run a BlandMotorsports Late Model weekly at Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway.

DUAYNE HOMMEL, 2002 Southern All-Star Champion (SAS), and BRANDON KINZER, 2003 SAS Rookie hopeful, have made plans for a 2003 driver partnership. RICK AUKLAND had a new Dodge motor built by Malcuit Racing Engines that he will debut in Florida.

SANCTION NEWS:

The upcoming Renegade DirtCar Racing Series sanctioned portions of the "27th Annual Late Model Winternationals" at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa (Gibsonton),FL will find the "Delaware Double-File Restarts" in use for all races on the 1/3rd mile semi-banked track. The race restarts will see the leader of the race setting alone in front of the field with the second place driver having the option to restart from either the inside row or outside row and all other competitors lining up side-by-side accordingly. The Renegades action will start Monday, Feb. 3 with a 40 lap - $5,000 to win main event and continue with a 50 lap - $7,000 to win feature Wednesday, Feb. 5 and conclude Friday, Feb. 7 with a 75 lap - $12,000 to win feature event.

RACE TRACK NEWS:

Famed Sprint Car track Attice (OH) Raceway Park will host two Sunoco ALMS races in 2003: Friday, May 23 with 410 Sprints and Friday, June 27 with 305 Sprints.

Virginia Motor Speedway will hold an inspection and registration day, March 8, 2003 from 10am till 4pm at the speedway’s office and shop building adjacent to the competitor parking area. The physical address of the building is 4426 Tidewater Trail. (U.S. Route 17) Jamaica, VA. Officials will be accepting registrations for the 2003 season and inspecting competitor’s cars in preparation for the speedway’s open practice on Saturday, April 5, 2003. Virginia Motor Speedway opens its 2003 season on Saturday, April 12, 2003 with four divisions of racing action.

Potomac (MD) Speedway promoter Rick Jones and Mark Richards Racing Enterprises have officially announced the formation of a Super Late Model championship award. The 2003 Super Late Model Champion will receive a new Rocket chassis courtesy of Mark Richards Racing Enterprises of Shinnston, WV. The chassis, valued at over $3000, has been a proven winner on the 3/8ths mile high banked clay oval in Budds Creek, MD.
The 2003 Super Late Model championship chase at Potomac Speedway will begin on Friday night March 21 and run through Friday, September 19.

The 2002 Lake Cumberland Speedway Awards Banquet will be held on Friday Night, January 31, 2003 at the Pink Cadillac in Somerset, Kentucky. The Pink Cadillac is located directly behind McDonalds (South). The 2002 Lake Cumberland Speedway Late Model Points Champions was Royce McGowan of Faubush, Kentucky.

Tennessee Valley Auto Racing Promotions company and Columbus (MS) Speedway have just confirmed a six race deal to assist in providing added special event coverage for Johnny Stokes’ popular 3/10 mile, high banked, red clay oval during the 2003 season. The Chattanooga based company is handling promotional materials for tracks and teams as well as potential sponsors in the region for the sport and is enthralled at the success that the business has had since its conception in September. TVA Racing Promotions will begin it’s “Mississippi Connection” in March with the “Rebel Challenge” special event set for Friday and Saturday the 7th & 8th. In April the 11th annual “James King Memorial” race is scheduled and in May “Columbus Chaos” for the Mississippi State Championship Challenge is set. “Mississippi Mayhem” in June, The prestigious “John L. Cliett Tribute” race in mid July and the “James Nickoles Memorial” is also inked to be covered by the company in conjunction with the teaming with Columbus Speedway’s talented announcer Ross Tingle, providing for enhanced play by play action at the exciting bullring for the Columbus faithful. Raceway 7 will be opening for the 2003 racing season on Friday, April 25. Practice Nights will be held on April 11 and April 18. Weekly Friday night racing for the Late Models, E-Mods, Street Stocks, and Hobby Stocks will continue through the end of August, with two special events to be held in September. The complete schedule will be released, as soon as it is finalized.

Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, OH will see the return of a couple familiar faces when the 2003 weekly racing season gets underway at the 3/8 mile clay oval. The track will again present a full slate of dirt track racing events on Saturday nights headlining the Massillion Transmission Late Models. The season will hold their annual Test & Tune/Practice Day on Saturday March 29 with Opening Day slated for Saturday April 5, 2003. Returning to the staff will be Carol Tope (Chief Scorer), Chuck Griffith (Announcer) and Owen James (Webmaster). Jarrod Lehman will be handling race results and press releases.


INDUSTRY NEWS:
The 5th Annual Bodees Racers Auction and Trade Show will be held at the Missouri State Fairgrounds in Sedalia, Missouri on the 25th and 26th of January 2003. There will be signs posted on the fairgrounds to the Missouri Agriculture Building where it will be held. With the addition of space, this years event will offer many more Vendor Booths and Racing Displays. Several of the area racetracks also will be on hand to distribute their 2003 schedules and rulebooks. This event is open to the public. There will be anything and everything Automotive related up for bid. From lots of parts and pieces to complete racecars. It will be a huge auction both days with the bidding beginning at 9:30 a.m. till approximately 6:00 p.m. The doors open at 8:00 a.m. to view all the items for bid. Set-up will begin Friday from 9:00a.m. To 9:00 p.m.

April through September Don Gamble, Larry Mattingly and Rich Solman will present 'the good, the bad and the ugly' of local racing. Hotrod News is a new TV show beginning in March that will air on TNN Saturday mornings at 8:00 AM and Sunday evenings at 8:30 PM on PCNC. The show will feature hot rods, car cruises, high performance vehicles, and technical topics plus circle track racing. Gamble is one of the reporters for the show. Ed Lynch Jr. is one of the featured guests for a March program.
