DIRT LATE MODEL NEWS & NOTES:

ERIC EICHOLTZ captured his career first feature win on Friday (August) the 13th. The win came at Lakeville Speedway where Eicholtz’ father Bob was a top runner for a couple decades.

REX BERRY, in his first year of Late Model racing and a regular at Milan Speedway in Milan, TN, has already won nine events including the track’s 12th annual No-Till Late Model show with his #C21 Hatches Autoplex /Decks Recycling Grand Prix.

JEFF FLOYD is sponsored this year by the Stamp Out Smoking program in accordance with the Arkansas Department of Health. The SOS campaign is money the state of Arkansas is using from their settlements with the big tobacco companies. SOS focuses on public education, community programs, school programs, helping smokers quit, and the enforcement of laws prohibiting sales to minors. GORDIE SEEGERT recently won his first WISSOTA Late Model feature of the year Shawano Speedway.

CHARLIE DUNCAN scored his first Wayne County Speedway points championship last Saturday evening.

DOUG DODD has eight wins at Muskingum County Speedway so far in 2004.

SCOTT SLAY of Clinton, Mississippi continued with a another strong performance on the 2004 MSCCS tour by taking the $2,500 victory recently at Simpson County Motorsports Park. The win was Slay’s fifth MSCCS triumph on the season as Slay extend his points lead on the evening as well.

JAY FIENE won his career first LaSalle Speedway feature last Saturday night.

JACKIE BOGGS currently holds four consecutive MACS wins, a series record.

PAUL HARRIS, prior to August 20, continues his winning ways at Half Mountain Speedway by winning 13 of the last 15 races he has entered at the Kentucky track.

DICK BARTON was recently crowned the inaugural PONY Series champion. The series is a cooperative effort with tracks in Pennsylvania, Ohio and New York.

J.R. GENTRY, driver of the GDI Race Cars/Reedy’s Racing Engines #14, was married last Friday evening to Danielle Bee.

With his recent win at The Rock Allegany County Speedway JACK PENCIL has won the Bedrock Shootout Super Late Model title.

DAVID ‘SLOWRIDE’ SCOTT competed at Stateline Speedway last Saturday in injured driver’s ROD MALOY’s car, finishing second at Stateline to DAN ARMBRUSTER.

Rookie dirt Late Model racer BENJI LEE of Raywick, KY scored his career first O’Reilly NARA Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series win at Ponderosa Speedway’s recent ‘John Bradshaw Memorial Race’.

WENDELL WALLACE made a tough decision a weekend ago and decided to skip the O'Reilly MARS Series event at the I-44 (MO) Speedway in favor of the $50,000 to win North-South 100 at the Florence Speedway in Union, KY. Wendell was running second in the MARS point standings going into the North-South 100. His decision to skip the event at I-44 cost him one position in the point standings.

MIKE GOODREMOTE is the ’04 Red Cedar Speedway champion.

SANCTION NEWS & NOTES:

The Stacker 2® Xtreme DirtCar Series will team up with the Topless Outlaw Racing Association (TORA) to co-sanction the $10,000 to win “YJ Stinger® Jayhawk 50” Saturday, August 28 at the world famous Belleville High Banks in Belleville, KS. The TORA drivers will be mandated to run their race cars with the roof on and the tire brand and compound choice have been amended. Competitors may ONLY use the Goodyear Eagle Racing Tire X-400, the American Racer MD-56 or the Hoosier LM 40.

Northern Allstars Late Model Series (NALMS) racing action resumes Saturday, August 28th in Bardstown, KY at The Bluegrass Speedway where the stars of NALMS will battle for a $5000 top prize.

After taking a weekend off the World of Outlaws Late Model Series will take to the dirt at “The Bullet” Milan Speedway, Inc., in Milan, TN on Saturday August 28th. The World of Outlaws Dirty Dozen Drivers will take on Milan Speedway’s 3/8 mile banked clay oval and fight for their share $42,000 purse in the track’s Haywood Western Memorial World of Outlaws event.

Mother Nature claimed her third Mid-Atlantic Championship Series (MACS) win of the season Saturday August 21, at Hagerstown Speedway, Hagerstown, MD. Lisa Bragunier (Plessinger), General Manager, of the speedway and the Series are attempting to find a suitable replacement date to present the $10,000 to-win, 57th Anniversary Classic that boasted a $50,000 total purse. As details become available they will be released as soon as possible.

The Carolina Clash Series next scheduled event will be September 4 at Riverside Speedway in Travelers Rest, SC, a 50-lap show paying $4,000 to the winner.

The next O'Reilly SUPR Late Model race is scheduled for Saturday night, September 4th at Thunder Valley Speedway in Glenmora, Louisiana and the race will be run by Forest Hill Speedway's management. The O'Reilly SUPR Late Models will then race at Champion Park in Doyline, Louisiana on Sunday night, September 5th.

Labor Day weekend this year for MACS will be comprised of two separate shows with a total purse of over $50,000. Hosting the first night of action, Saturday, September 4, is McKean County Raceway, E. Smethport, PA; with the annual Don Hardy Memorial 50 presented by Andrews Auto Salvage. This show pays $5,000 to-win. Sunday, September 5, MACS travels to Tri-City Speedway, Franklin, PA; for the 2nd Annual Oil Region Labor Classic with Bossard-Crawford GM Store, BERT Transmissions and Hover Racing-Hoosier Tire Ohio Valley supporting the MACS portion of the program. This is a 40-lap, $4,000 to-win event.

RACE TRACK NEWS & NOTES:

The scheduled racing program at Raceway 7 for Friday, August 20, 2004 was canceled by rain. The Summer Sizzler for the Late Models, presented by Jay's Auto Wrecking, will now be held on Friday, August 27. The 50-lap main event will see the winner earn $5,000.

For the first time in the track’s inaugural season, the Lincoln Speedway will host the ever popular UMP Super Late Models on Sunday, September 5th. The race will pay National points to the UMP Super Late Model competitors as they vie for the 2004 UMP National Championship crown. The door-to-door and bumper-to-bumper action of Late Model stock car racing returns to The Dirt Track @ Lowe's Motor Speedway Saturday night, Sept. 18, during the fourth annual Golden Corral Dirt Late Model Championship. Several of the nation's top dirt late model racers including Earl Pearson Jr., Shane Tankersley, Jeff Cooke, Chris Madden, Jimmy Owens, Jeff Smith, Freddy Smith and Mike Duvall are among those expected to be on hand. Sanctioned by the O'Reilly Southern All Star Racing Series, the event will be highlighted by a 40-lap feature with $10,000 earmarked for the winner. Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway will host Miss Utility / Pepsi Night on Saturday August 28th featuring the Thurston Spring Service Super Late Models. The Late Model division will be competing in a 35 lap, double point event.

KC Raceway will be holding a $2,500 to win Late Model Season Championship program this Saturday night August 28.

The Lernerville Speedway family is sad to announce the death of Nancy Kosecki recently. Nancy is the wife of Ron Kosecki and the mother of Late Model driver Rob Kosecki. Letters and cards may be sent to Ron at 339 Stoney Hollow Road in Cabot, PA.

The Late Model class will return to the Lebanon Midway Speedway on Friday night, September 3 with the IMCA Late Models on the card.

This Saturday at Winchester (VA) Speedway will be the ‘Mike Clore Memorial’ for the Late Models.

Hesston Speedway staff members Jamie & Candy Reed celebrated the birth of a son on August 10, Tony William Reyan Reed, who clocked in at 7 lbs. 8 oz.

The top-rated Race Kentucky Motorsports Race Report Presented by Miller Lite will again be on the airwaves and on the world wide web this Tuesday night, August 24, from 8:00 until 9:30 p.m. EDT. Dirt Late Model pilot Dustin Neat of Dunnville, KY will be the in-studio guest on this week's show. The Race Kentucky Motorsports Race Report Presented by Miller Lite is hosted by Bluegrass Speedway track announcer and media contact Michael Despain. Longtime Chicagoland auto racing journalist, Rick Dal Corobbo, 52, of Crown Point was killed in an automobile accident on Interstate 65, south of Merrillville early Saturday (August 14) morning. For the past several years, Dal Corobbo was the racing correspondent for Gary´s Post Tribune newspaper. During the racing season, Dal Corobbo´s stories about the local racing action would be in the paper, almost filling a full page in Saturday editions. Dal Corobbo is survived by his wife of 18 years, Laurie, and three daughters, Christie, Ashley and Abbey.

The cameras of Speed Channel will be in full force during the “YJ Stinger® Jayhawk 50” at the Belleville High Banks in Belleville, KS. as all the action will be taped by Speed Channel for broadcast Saturday, Oct. 9 at 3:00pm EDT.
