CONCORD, NC – Dec. 14, 2009 – DIRTcar Racing will sanction the 2010 Colorado Late Model Association (CLMA) series for Super Late Models, officials from the two organizations have announced.

The CLMA becomes the fourth Super Late Model tour to come under the DIRTcar Racing Western Region banner since 2008, joining the Western Allstars DIRTcar Late Model Series, Northwest I-5 DIRTcar Late Model Tour and the Southwest Dirt Late Model Association (SWDRA) series.

“We're proud to bring the Colorado Late Model Association series under the DIRTcar Racing umbrella in 2010,” said DIRTcar Racing Western Region director Chris Morgan. “Sanctioning a growing series like the CLMA is another key element of DIRTcar Racing's expansion. With the CLMA's location in the Rocky Mountain region bordering our DIRTcar series to the east and west, we are creating a bigger base of Super Late Model teams to draw from as we strive to create bigger, more exciting events for the fans and racers.”

While the CLMA will remain under the direction of president (and racer) J.T. Botts of Broomfield, Colo., all events in 2010 will offer DIRTcar Racing-licensed drivers points toward the UMP DIRTcar Racing regional and national standings. Drivers will have an opportunity to share in a UMP DIRTcar Racing points fund that annually tops $200,000.

In existence since 2001, the Denver-based CLMA is coming off a 10-event 2009 season that visited I-76 Speedway in Fort Morgan, Colo., Gillette (Wyo.) Thunder Speedway and Sweetwater Speedway in Rock Springs, Wyo. Dave Garmann of Milliken, Colo., won the series championship for the second time in his career.

According to CLMA promotions director Cory Moul, tour officials are planning to expand the schedule in 2010 to as many as 20 events spread over multiple two-race weekends. He said Colorado and Wyoming will remain the epicenter of the series, but tracks in Nebraska, Kansas and New Mexico are possible additions.

“We told everybody about the DIRTcar sanctioning during our (awards) banquet (on Dec. 4 in Westminster, Colo.) and the response was great,” said Moul. “Everyone with the CLMA is excited about the benefits that being part of DIRTcar will provide – from the increased recognition and the chance to race for the UMP DIRTcar national and regional points funds that CLMA drivers will now have, to the increased insurance coverage that DIRTcar members receive.”

Several CLMA drivers got a preview of DIRTcar Racing-sanctioned competition last month, competing in the inaugural Silver State DIRTcar Championships on Nov. 20-21 at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The Colorado contingent included Botts, Scott Lewis (third-place finisher in the 2009 points standings), Dean Moore (fifth in points) and Steve Lewis (ninth in points).
