Shane Clanton of Locust Grove,GA and a 2005 member of the World of Outlaws Stacker 2® Late Model Series “Dirty Dozen” will under go surgery Monday, May 9 to repair a damaged rotator cuff in his left shoulder. Currently sitting 13th in the WoO Stacker 2® Late Model Series Championship points list, Clanton is expected to miss the May 13th event at Limaland Motorsports Park in Lima,OH and the May 14th event at Butler Battlegrounds in Quincy (Butler),MI.

The decision for the surgery was prompted after Clanton suffered a dislocation of the left shoulder Friday, April 29th during the running of the “Showdown at Sarvertown 50” held at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver,PA. Contact during a restart jerked the steering wheel of the SAE Parts/RSD Enterprises No. 25 RSDEnterprises,Inc. Rocket Chassis/Custom Race Engines Chevrolet Monte Carlo resulting in Clanton’s shoulder popping out of place. Clanton tried to put the shoulder back in place but was taken to an area hospital for further treatment and released shortly after.

When asked during a telephone interview Monday how he was feeling, the 30 year-old driver succinctly stated, “I’m pretty sore right now. I went to the surgeon this morning and we will have surgery next Monday morning.”

The medical advice is for Clanton to miss some time from the dirt Late Model trail.

“The surgeon says I need to miss three weeks but I don’t know. How much time we miss will depend on how I feel. I know I’m gonna miss Limaland and Michigan. The following week we might be all right but I’m not for sure. It’ll just depend on how I feel.”

With todays advanced medical procedures Clanton will not be hospitalized after the surgery.

“The surgery will be an arthroscopic surgery done on an outpatient basis. They’ll put two little holes in my shoulder and go in there to fix the rotator cuff. If everything goes good I’ll be home the same day.”

This injury isn’t anything new for Clanton. He first injured the shoulder playing tight end and defensive end on his high school football team and it has given him problems ever since.

“I popped it out of joint a few weeks back at Dixie at the race we won. I got it back in place and it didn’t hurt so we kept racing. Friday night at Lernerville when the wheel jerked it pulled my arm forward and popped it out of joint. It’s strange. It’ll pop out when my arm gets yanked forward but not when it gets yanked backwards. I tried getting it back in place but I couldn’t. It never did go back in until we got to the hospital.”

Car owner Ronnie Dobbins of RSD Enterprises,Inc. said the surgery was something that needed to be done.

“We were hoping that we could get through the season and then have Shane get the surgery this off-season. But, it’s gotten to the point where it doesn’t take much and his shoulder is out of place. I hate to have to miss any World of Outlaws shows. We have to get this surgery done now. It’s popped out of place on him like twice in four to five weeks so there’s no sense in letting it go any longer. Shane’s a tough guy. He doesn’t want to miss any races at all but he’ll be just too sore four days after the surgery to go back racing. And, we don’t want to do anything that would mess up what the doctors fix.”
