South Park, PA (April 24, 2007) Keith Barbara and Forbes Field Motorsports made the long eight-hour trip to the immaculate Dirt Track at Lowe’s Motor Speedway for the World of Outlaws Late Model Series sanctioned Circle K Colossal 100 that paid $50,000 to the winner. Unfortunately for the Forbes Field Motorsports team, some bad luck took the 400 plus mile trip with them.

Unpredictable weather kept Keith parked for Friday and Saturday (April 13th & 14th) as well as the World of Outlaws Late Model Series sanctioned ‘Showdown in Sarvertown’ at Lernerville Speedway on Tuesday, April 17th. The race still went on as scheduled but the team decided to stay home and save the equipment for the trip to Concord, NC.

The Forbes Field Motorsports team arrived in North Carolina on Thursday (April 19th) with high expectations as Keith had a very good showing in the 2006 edition of the circle K Colossal 100. Keith qualified 40th out of the 92 cars that took time. “We were fast but I couldn’t get the car to turn getting into the corner,” mentioned Keith on his qualifying run. The redraw for the heats put Keith in the 3rd starting position in the 10th of 10 heat races that were only transferring two cars to the Colossal 100. Keith got off to a good start but with the car being as tight as it was he was relegated to a 7th place finish and on his way to the C-Main.

The next day a confident Keith Barbara took his Triangle Benefits Services/Potoka Trucking/Forbes Field Garage/RanGroup Racing Tours/Rocket Chassis GTO out for the 20-lap C-Main event. Keith was in a transfer spot and looked to be hooked up when the motor blew and set fire coming out of turn two. Keith was able to get out of the burning car safely, “I had the steering wheel off and belts undone before the car was stopped, my foot was on fire for a minute,” explained Barbara. “My wife joked with me after, she said that I was on the big screen and that I should have ran around like Ricky Bobby (character from the movie Talladega Nights), if I knew I was on the big screen I would have,” joked the disappointed racer. “I think we had a car that could have made the feature. The car felt great, we finally got the car loose enough after talking with Mark Bush from AFCO to get through the corners. It’s just frustrating to have things end the way they did. The motor seems to be in pretty bad shape,” Keith said from his shop on Tuesday morning. “We’re going to take it out to Bill (Kell) to see what happened.”

The teams plans for this weekend include a $5,000 to win, Independent Racing Series (IRS) sanctioned event at Hilltop Speedway in Millersburg, OH on Friday, April 27th. Keith also has tentative plans to run at Marion Center Speedway in the Floyd Lockart owned Lias Tire/E&M Motors/Townsend Gas & Oil/Edge Racing Engines/Warrior Chassis #4 on Saturday as well as ‘Spring Fest’ at Challenger Raceway in Jacksonville, PA on Sunday.
