ARCHDALE, NC (August 8, 2009)- Earl Pearson Jr. and the Bobby Labonte Racing Team competed in two Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series events this past weekend in NY and MD. Earl would be in contention for a win on Thursday at the Utica-Rome Speedway in NY leading the first 19 laps of the 50-lap feature event. Earl would fade out of the top five as track conditions dried out and his tire compound choice would be too soft for the track conditions at the end of the feature. Earl would manage a 7th place finish in the final run down. Then on Saturday Earl and the team competed at the Hagerstown Speedway in MD starting on the front row for the 50-lap feature event after setting fast time in qualifying. Earl would battle for the lead throughout the feature with Jimmy Owens and Brad Neat swapping positions numerous times. Earl would come up one position short finishing 2nd behind Brad Neat at the checkers.
Earl continues to close in on Scott Bloomquist for the top spot in the series championship points standings. Earl has cut the margin down from a 360 point deficit to only 165 points behind Bloomquist."It was a good weekend again for the team and our sponsors. I really like the way the Mastersbilt chassis has been working and we feel confident about this weekend to be competeing for the win at the North/South 100. The points title is really shaping up to anybodys deal to win. Jimmy, Dale, Scott and myself cant afford to have any more DNF's the rest of the year. Im looking forward to the next several series events and see what happens", stated Earl.
Earl and the team will travel to Florence Speedway in KY this weekend for the big Sunoco Race Fuels North/South 100 paying $50,000 to the winner. Earl and the team will qualify on Friday August 7th and run the heats and feature event on Saturday August 8th. Earl already has one $50,000 victory this year winning the WoO sanctioned Colossal 100 back in April.
