Two members of the World Of Outlaws Stacker 2® Late Model Series did quite well for themselves during the April 15th – 17th off week-end for the “Dirty Dozen” race teams. Rick Eckert of York,PA and Dale McDowell of Chickamuaga,GA both found victory circle during the week-end. Eckert reached victory lane in two of three events while McDowell notched a single win in what was basically a test-n-tune session.

Eckert and the Raye Vest Racing Team had a successful weekend kicking off the trek Friday, April 15th at Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown,MD for night one of the “Hagerstown-Winchester Shootout” weekend. After winning his heat race to transfer to the $3,000 to win feature event, Eckert took the lead on lap 13 and held off veteran Nathan Durboraw in the closing laps to earn the victory.

“That was a great race at Hagerstown last Friday night,” said Eckert. “Nathan (Durboraw) puts on a show every time he hits the track and Friday night was no exception. When I saw him pull alongside of me, I knew I had to get up on the wheel. I changed my line in both corners and was able to pick up the speed I needed to hold him off for the win.”

Saturday night found the team traveling to Winchester Speedway in Winchester,VA for the second leg of the “Hagerstown-Winchester Shootout”. Eckert was once gain able to win his heat race to earn a spot in the $3,000 to win feature event. In the 40-lapper, Eckert was able to climb up to the third position in the first half of the event, but fell to fourth where he would finish.

Eckert’s weekend wrapped up Sunday, April 17th with the annual “Spring Fest” at Challenger Raceway near Indiana,PA. Eckert struggled in his heat race aboard the Raye Vest Excavating/J&J Steel No. 24 Raye Vest Rocket Chassis/Cornett Engines Ford Tuarus and had to win his consolation race to transfer to the $5,000 to win main event. Eckert rolled of 21st for the 40-lap feature event and immediately started his march to the front. With 5 laps to go, Eckert was in the hunt and nosed his car into the lead on lap 38 leading the final two circuits to claim his second “Spring Fest” title.

“My car was really good come feature time, but we struggled big time in our heat race,” said Eckert. “The track was kinda’ one lane in the heat race and I ran at the back and even spun out. We won the consolation race to advance to the feature and the track got black slick from top to bottom and provided some great racing. I was a spatient as I could be in a forty lap race and starting 21st, but I was able to take the lead with a couple of laps to go.”

For the McDowell the weekend was a lucrative one though the plan was to test-n-tune his Larry Shaw Race Cars/J&J Steel/New Vision Graphics No. 17M Dale McDowell Racing Rocket-Shaw Chassis/Racetek Engines Pontiac Grand Prix. McDowell picked up his second win of the 2005 season Saturday, April 16 claiming the $3,000 top prize at North Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth,GA. McDowell passed his twin #17M, driven by Randy Burrows, with a high side move and then held of a late rally from Skip Arp to bring home the win. McDowell felt especially good about capturing the 50-lap “G&N Gun and Pawn 50”.

“We were doing a little testing Saturday, so anytime you can test and win the race, that is a very good thing,” said McDowell. “We had some mechanical issues the week before during the World Of Outlaws Stacker 2® Late Model Series events, but I think we have fixed those problems. The race at North Georgia was a good one. You could run around the bottom or around the top. I changed my line late in the race and got going a little better. The Skip (Arp) started coming on strong and we were fortunate enough to hold him off for the win.”
