Yesterday afternoon I was at the track for a meeting to meet Larry Kemp and go over changes that will be made. Rumors will be squashed here and some confirmed.
A scoring tower will be placed on the outside of the track behind turn number 2. This tower will display the top 5 positions for qualifing and racing. It will also display time as the cars pass thru during qualifing. The tower will also have a 2 line message system used for updates throughout the night. The tower will have at the top a sponsor board displaying the Official soft Drink of Eldora Speedway - Coke. So all Pepsi products will no longer be sold and will be replaced by Coke.
New lights will be installed so it is easier for the drivers to see if the green light, yellow light, or red light is displayed. This will be the same lighting system used at Daytona and Bristol.
Sponsor Boards will be built along the back stretch on the outside of the track for corporate sponsors. The inside of the track will be used like normal with most of the cars still in the middle - although the track is looking into the amount of fans that are in the pits and might make changes to that.
Pushtrucks will still be placed in the pits but a pushtruck steward will be in place to weed out the ones not working and to help speed up the efficiency of the pushtrucks. A schedule will be given to all pushtrucks and wreckers and drivers of all divisons so they know what time to be where and it will be followed as closely as possible. We all know it will be hard to keep the times right do to mecanichal problems track conditions and what not but the format will not change unless a drastic change is needed.
A permanent scale will be built in the pits to be used by all divisons. It will have a "no go/go" light system and will display the weight of the car for the fans to see so there will never be a question. USAC and the WoO have stated they will not use this scale but will stick with their own.
A new safety fence will be installed around the track as the one that is there now is in need of repairs Tony Stewart Enterprises has decided to install a new one.
GM is the Official pace truck and car of Eldora Speedway and will provide a car and truck for every race.
In the past the pushtruck drivers that where on the payroll and wreckers and medical crew where payed the night of the race. That has now changed. Myself included, pushtruck drivers, medical crew, and all staff at Eldora MotorSpeedway are now employed by Tony Stewart Enterprises. We are hourly or nightly payed and that is yet to be determined. We will recive a check every 2 weeks in the mail. All federal Taxes will be removed.
The Pond that members of this board gather around for the meet and greet will now have a fence surrounding it. This is because Tony gets 25 lawsuits a week and if you think about it - someone will jump in and then sue Tony for damages...so to keep this from happening the fence must go up.
A sewer system will be installed from New Weston to Eldora and the restrooms and concession stands will be updated and more will be added to ease the congestion at the two that are in place now.
My friends, it is a new day at the famed 1/2 mile highbanked oval. The future is bright for dirt racing as Eldora which has been a staple to dirt racing and reknowned for being the best speedplant in the world is going corprate with big corprate sponsors moving in! The racing community will see a trend start with this move that will keep and bring dirt racing to the forefront. I only hope that this change is for the good and maybe just maybe a series sponsor can be found for the WoO sprint car series. I will have further updates about Eldora as they come in and promise from this point forward what you hear from me will not be rumor but will be truth!. March 26th is opening night!!
