ST. LOUIS – Final qualifying ran late into the night on the second evening of Rage at the River, Gateway Int’l Raceway’s round of the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series. When it was over, Bill Reichert maintained his top qualifying spot in Top Alcohol Dragster and Kirk Williams stayed in the top spot in Top Alcohol Funny Car.
Reichert, an Owosso, Mich., resident improved on Friday’s qualifying effort by a tenth of a second. Saturday’s 5.395-second, 270.97 mph pass surpassed the competition in two qualifying sessions today. Marty Thacker, Robinson, Ill., also improved on his initial qualifying pass but his 5.464-second, 263.26 mph effort was not enough to eclipse Reichert’s run.
Glenwood, Iowa’s Williams did not better his first qualifying pass but the 5.775-second, 252.38 mph pass was enough to keep him in the No. 1 spot. Marty Nothstein, Orefield, Pa., did improve on his Friday pass with a 5.793-second, 249.72 mph that was enough to stay in the second qualifying position.
Racing continues Sunday at Gateway Int’l Raceway. Gates open at 7 a.m. and eliminations start at 9 a.m. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will run first round of eliminations at 1 p.m.
Tickets for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event are $20. Children 12 and under are admitted free with a paid adult.
