BONNE TERRE, Mo. -- (Sept. 24, 2005) Mother Nature once again played a major part of the racing program at Big River Sand Drags Saturday night during the most important night of racing all season long. Because the final eight races of the evening were washed out, it forced track officials to revert some of the classes back to the first round results to establish a final outcome. Here are the results.
In Competition Eliminator, Brad Lunn of Pacific locked up the class championship with his first place win while Steve Barton (who finished second in points) captured second place. There was no top eliminator race.
In what may have been the biggest story of the night, Daniel Wies of Wentzville had gone the entire season without a loss only. However after taking first place in the Open 4x4 class on Saturday, he was unable to take on second place finisher J.R. Dreher in the top eliminator race due to transmission problems, thus giving him his only loss of the season.
In Stock Buggy, Ralph Smith of Mineral Point made it back to the track for the first time in over a month and picked up both first place and top eliminator honors while Cody "Circle S" Sellers of Arnold settled for second place.
In Vehicle ET, Philip Beaird of St. Louis was the first place and top eliminator winner while class champion Gladys Edwards of Bonne Terre settled for second place.
In Junior ATV, class champion Whitney Dee of Leadwood was the first place winner with second place winner Gage Knight taking the top eliminator race.
In ATV-1, class champion Allie Glatczak of Potosi once again took the top spot and won the top eliminator race while Cassie Patterson of Leadwood was second.
In what turned out to be by far his biggest victory of the season, Jimmy Farris of Potosi emerged from a pack of five racers in the Pro ATV class to become the class champion. Farris was the first place winner on Saturday night with Andrew Burcham of Desloge taking second place. There was no top eliminator race due to rain.
In Super Pro ATV, Dean Reeder of Bonne Terre was the first place winner while Chris McAlexander finished second.
Due to the rain on Saturday night and then again on Sunday, the "Tournament of Champions" that features the top finishing racers in all nine class battling it out for the overall track championships in both ATV and MSRA had to be postponed. That event will take place prior to the start of the ATV Nationals at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8th.
The ATV Nationals will actually cover three nights of action. First a test and tune on Friday, Oct. 7th from 6 p.m. On Saturday the ATV Nationals begin when registration begins at 3 p.m. with time trials at 4, registration ends at 6 with racing at 7. On Sunday the ATV Nationals continue with gates opening at noon, time trials at 1 p.m. and racing at 4.
For more information on the ATV Nationals phone (573) 358-5009 or (573) 747-0566.
